No numbers yet but they should be coming in soon. Mitt Romney looks to be cruising to a blowout win in Arizona, so naturally the nation’s lonely eyes turn to Michigan to see if there are enough citizens there who remember Gov. George Romney to vote for his son for president. And so we’ll have some suspense.
The stakes tonight: A Santorum win in MI reinforces the notion that Romney can’t even win his home state (well, one of his home states). A double by Romney suggests that he’s back on his game. A grand total of 59 delegates are up for grabs.
The argument between Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney has been among the most banal of political arguments of recent times. Santorum has slammed Romney for opposing the same auto bailout that he opposed, and Romney has slammed Santorum for trying to get Democrats to cross over and vote for him, even though Romney has crossed over to vote in Democrat primaries himself. That’s the bad news. The good news is that both would still be better than the petty, childish incumbent who thinks we can burn enough pond scum to power the economy. The big news on the gas price front today, in fact, wasn’t another goofy idea from the regime, but an admission that the Department of Energy isn’t even working on ways to bring the price of gas down. Thanks, Barack!
Update: Numbers are starting to come in. You can follow Arizona’s here and Michigan’s here.
Update: The polls have closed in Arizona, and Mitt Romney has already been declared the winner there. He picks up all of Arizona’s 29 delegates in the winner-take-all primary.
Update: Apparently opposing the auto bailout hasn’t hurt Romney in Detroit. Wayne county is giving him a 14 point cushion, and all of the counties surrounding Detroit are going for Romney.
Update: 9:17 central, Fox projects that Romney will win Michigan. As of this writing, Romney leads by 5 points in MI with 70% of precincts reporting.

I for one am hoping Romney will have a big night.
Actively calling for Democrats to vote for Santorum in the Republican primary to send a message to Mitt “and his Wallstreet Buddies” is not something a “Republican” candidate should be doing, in my opinion. Whether a Republican decides to vote in a Democrat primary is not even the same issue. Let’s at least try to have some honest commentary.
Okay, I’ll be honest.
Ronnie couldn’t have won the landslides he did without Reagan Democrats. It’s questionable whether he could have won at all.
The reason Daily Kos and Michael Moore are calling on Democrats to vote for Santorum is because they think he will be the easiest to beat in a general election against Obama, not because they have any intention of voting for him in November.
I thought the issue was with Santorum setting up robocalls to get Democrats to vote for him, not the Daily Kossacks.
“Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.” Let them try to sabotage us, they’ll only succeed in helping to nominate a candidate who is a much bigger threat than they give him credit for.
Here is what Rick Santorum says in his Robocall:
“Romney supported the bailout for his Wall Street billionaire buddies, but opposed the auto bailout. That was a slap in the face to every Michigan worker.”
Bryan, what is your position on whether Romney’s opposition to the auto bailout was “a slap in the face to every worker in Michigan?”
Sounds like typical political overkill. Not every worker in Michigan works for one of those pensions that happen to make cars, or belongs to a union, etc.
I thought I’d be interested in the returns, but in fact I kind of knew that I wouldn’t be. Especially when talking head after talking head comes out mouthing the talking points.
I’m watching Fox Biz rather than Fox News for variety, but Cavuto had one of those phoney baloney Blue Dog Dems coming out telling me that the economy is improving, unemployment is improving, consumer confidence is improving….
And I thought of this link I got last week.
Sorry in advance.

Now. Back to business.
Personally, this is one of my favorites.

God I do love it when Michael Moore loses. I really do.
According to my quick count, as of now, Santorum won 54 of Michigan’s 83 counties, and Romney only won 29, using this page to count.
Since Michigan is a proportional delegate state, that may make it interesting when it comes time to award the delegates, though I am not sure exactly how the counties map to congressional districts.
It also appears that Gingrich is well and truly out of it, sitting 5% behind Ron Paul right now. I’m sure the Newt supporters will attack me for reporting it, but results don’t lie and neither do I.
George Romney to vote for his son for president. And so we’ll have some suspense.
