Nothing surprises me anymore. Since leaving the Justice Department, I’ve travelled around the country, speaking at law schools about election law. This week I was at Duke University and learned that providing a debate audience free food from Chick-Fil-A is offensive to the Left.
The Federalist Society is an important law school student organization across the country. If it weren’t for the Federalist Society, law school campuses would be dominated by an aggressive and ideologically driven Leftist agenda. The Federalist Society exists to foster discussion about conservative and libertarian constitutional principles at American law schools. If there is any organization that deserves your support, it is the Federalist Society. If the American experiment is to survive, it will be essential to have lawyers conversant in our grand American ideals, and able to defend them.
The need is especially acute at the “elite” law schools where things have gotten entirely out of control. The Federalist Society always offers free lunch to debate attendees. At Duke, apparently, giving away free Chick-Fil-A offends some Leftist law students.
Most Americans had no idea that Chick-Fil-A is a pariah to gay activists. “If you eat Chick-Fil-A you are anti-Gay,” says one blog. Duke University’s Federalist Society has offended the local chapter of “OUTlaw” because they serve free Chick-Fil-A to lecture attendees. Seriously, I’m not making this up.
Phil Aubart, the Duke University Federalist President tells me, “I’ve been confronted several times about serving Chick-Fil-A. ‘There are other places that serve chicken sandwiches’ is a common refrain.” The agitation at Duke Law comes from the president of “OUTlaw.”
If the Left gets agitated because someone is giving away free chicken sandwiches at American law schools, just imagine what they are doing to the students who support limited government and Constitutional liberty.

For crying out loud. You can’t make up some of the ridiculous crap going on in this country today.
I think I’ll go to Chick-Fil-A for lunch today.
Oh, bother. There’s no Chick-Fil-A near my town. Closest one is about 180 miles away.
You know what would be really outrageous–to suggest that if you don’t support a Progressive liberal or Democratic policy preference, they will try their best to shun you from society. Because, like, that would be, like, totally not true in any way, shape, or form.
On the liberal Left, to take the other side is to embrace racism and bigotry no matter the cause. “Food stamp President” is racist and a Chinese woman riding a bicycle past rice fields is racist and “blah” is racist, and Hallmark Cards are racist and the Tea Party is racist and “black holes” are racist and disagreement by default is racist. There is no reasonable side to the gay marriage issue except the correct one; anything else is the bigot inferno.
It’s gotten to the point where being a bigot and against “social justice” is a rather reasonable stance all things considered. I refer everyone for the millionth time to George Orwell and doublethink. You’d think Chick-fil-a had called for a national referendum on slavery.
You forgot one.
Pointing out how all these non-racist things are “racist” is also “racist.”
Why, chick-fil-a is not only anti-gay, they’re anti-everybody! The have the temerity to close on Sunday! They must be the anti-anti-christ!
As a company owned and run by Christians, it’s refreshing to see them stand for their principles. They have an awesome employee education program, and are generally seen as a ‘good’ company.
So of course they must be demonized. Time to show some tolerance, lefties. Oh, you have none? Where did you leave it? All men are born good, and just need adjusting by the state to relearn any lost goodness. Go, then , to your nearest re-education camp.
And I’ll thank you to never leave.
Chick-a-fil is my first choice for eating fast food. Their employees are always very pleasant. Their being closed on Sundays is one more reason to patronize them. Maybe that is why their employees are so pleasant the rest of the week.
Even worse. Chik-Fil-A closes on Sunday.
Well OK but they are losing the cow vote.
You may have missed the commercials …
I’m pretty sure the cows strongly support Chick-fil-a, as opposed to their ongoing demonstrations against Burger King and McDs.
One might even say … they won’t be mooved.
I wonder what area of law the offended students are planning to specilaize in–Constitutional Fascism? I wasn’t aware that was an option at elite law schools.
Though I probably should have been.
These days Franklin, that is the ONLY degree the elite law schools offer. Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Georgetown – they teach less law and more lefty psycho babble. The graduates thrive because people still believe degrees from these places signify something worthy. Or, fellow graduates hire them. Our country is doomed and the “elite law schools” are speeding the demise.
Well, that of course is what those places really are: not a fine and rigorous academic experience, it’s a place to make associations with other Ivy League types.
the ultimate useful idiot is designed at these elite institutions
the brand name gives “credibility” while the curriculum erodes critical thinking
I would like to be a liberal. I probably am a liberal, but somewhere liberalism became totalitarianism. And dumb totalitarianism at that.
Its the essence of a bully to say laughable things, and use intimidation to stifle the laughter.
I suspect you’re what’s called a “classical liberal,” where the word “liberal” comes from the same root as “liberty.”
That’s why I don’t call ‘em liberals, I call ‘em lefties… they’re not liberal in the classical sense.
thank you.
I’m going to drive miles out of my way to eat lunch at Chick-Fil-A today !
good to know.
On the distaff side, you might want to give a shout-out to Hobby Lobby. Closed on Sundays, unabashedly Christian owners who take out full-page advertisements on Easter.
I’ve been told to not shop there b/c they are “anti-gay.”
Do they ever offer any “justification” for calling Hobby Lobby “anti-gay”? Or is selling of materials for Bible school crafts and home decorations with Bible verses and Baby Jesus enough to qualify?
They are just upset because the menu does not offer an “all left” option on the crispy wings.
It’s a great company–best fast food around and I only wish there was one closer to my home. They offer scholarships to the poor, hire and train people who others might not, and provide a clean, decent place to eat and work. Duke should have as honorable a reputation..
Chick-Fil-A is a fantastic company that forbids there franchisees from opening on a Sunday. Also they are not looking to get big franchisee owners as other franchises do as they are owner managed along with Chick-Fil-A. It’s difficult to get two and almost impossible to get three. They take families seriously and make sure that owners have time to spend with families. They are very religious and it permeates through out their organization. I have dealt with both the father and recently the son who I have the utmost respect for as well as what they have developed in their organization. They breathe integrity and their word is their bond. I have not dealt with a better organization in my life.
However to now slam all liberals because a group doesn’t want chick-fil-a sandwiches is a bit of a stretch. That’s a broad brush to paint with.
I just wish more of those franchises can locate in MA.
Oh, shut up.
Don’t cry
Chik-Fil-A is a fantastic franchise, but I don’t think that Mr. Adams was saying the junk affiliated with “left” institutions constitutes the entirety of liberal affiliation. Also, considering Massachusetts’ stance on gays….good luck trying to find more Chik-Fil-A restaurants, lol.
Of course, it was also “a bit of a stretch” for some–note, I said some, not all–lefties to try to paint all conservatives with the broad brush of violent extremists after Gabrielle Giffords got shot, right?
Or after that nutburger crashed his plane into the IRS building.
Or the murder of that census worker in Kentucky in 2009.
Well, FL, are you gonna decry those examples the same way you decry Mr. Adams?
I anticipate an echoing silence.
Of course that’s stupid as well. Taking the actions of a few and then saying all think or act like that is crazy.
Although with the Gifford’s shooting I didn’t hear them saying the individual was “conservative” but that it was to easy to get a handgun.
the gabby giffords shooting was spun as the result of sarah palin’s use of the bullseye in reference to districts where tea party/conservative candidates could make headway
I suspect that you’re deliberately mis-remembering the way the lefties reacted to the Giffords shooting.
It was “inflammatory rightwing rhetoric” that was to blame… and thus conservatives were pained with that nice broad brush you now decry.
Now, show me a comment of yours from that time period when you told your fellow lefties that they shouldn’t paint with a broad brush.
Betcha can’t.
Sorry I can’t as I wasn’t posting then. Heck I didn’t think what Sarah did was out of line as many have done that in the past. Naturally each side embellishes what it wants but it still is painting with a broad brush.
So, in other words, you can provide exactly zero evidence that what you say now is what you said then.
Chick-Fil-A tonight!
never knew about the “anti-gay” but seeing the “christian” angle the correlation becomes clear (at least in the projected leftist thought process)
christian = racist/dumb = hates gays/blacks/other favored aggrieved victim group
lefty mathandscience forever
my only experience with chick-fil-a was at a drive through where the person taking my order was coherent and nice – god forbid – the food was decent as well – damn christians
‘Way too many lefties are confirmed non-math or science majors. It probably has something to do with social promotion.
Other places may serve chicken sandwiches, but they didn’t invent the chicken sandwich.
I bet the Left won’t eat Domino’s Pizza either.
I’ve seen NRO refer to Domino’s Pizza as “anti-abortion” pizza.
I only eat fast food upon rare occasion when hunger and convenience trump all sanity, but the next time I pass by a Chik-Fil-A, I’m stopping in for something.
How did they qualify for pariah status? Did one of their founders donate to Prop 8, or fail to sign a petition allowing nude bathhouses near churches and schools, or just turn down someone’s advances?
No Chick-fil-a’s nearby- they make great chicken sandwiches. I love the cows in their advertisements- holding up signs that say “Eat more chicken”.
THey have trouble locating in some malles- a lot of malls- most malls, actually, because they WILL NOT OPEN ON SUNDAY. While never having worked for them, I presume that a Jewish employee, if the employee requests, gets off from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. It would be in keeping with their philosophy. And the chain seems to be consistent in that.
Chic-fil-a is an awesome company. Its Winshape charities program does great work, and 10 cents of every dollar earned by Chic-fil-a is put into the Winshape charities that provide support for worthy causes including but not limited to college scholarships, marriage counselling, summer camps for children and Christian foster homes for orphans. I dare to say there is no finer business on this planet than Chic-fil-a!
They don’t get economics on the Left, do they?
Every free sandwich Chick Fil A provides cuts into their profits.
Ergo, if they were REALLY hostile to the company, the logical attitude would be “Free? We’ll take all you can give us!”
