Newt Gingrich Makes Surprise Vice Presidential Pick: Himself

Columbia, SC – In his South Carolina primary victory speech Saturday night, GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich made a surprise announcement when he named his choice for a vice presidential running mate. Gingrich’s choice shocked the political world for several reasons: Such announcements tend to come after a candidate has clinched the nomination and Gingrich is still more than 1,000 delegates away from that; and due to the identity of his running mate.

“Our nation needs new leadership. As president I will need someone who can think as big as I do. So I am pleased tonight to announce that my running mate will be Newt Gingrich!”

The supportive crowd at Gingrich’s victory party gasped, then remained silent. Gingrich shook his own hand, patted himself on the back, and continued on with his speech…

Obviously the above is a joke (for one thing, I’m not even in Columbia), but it has a serious point: Who would Newt Gingrich pick to be his vice presidential running mate? Who can keep up with him without overshadowing him? Would he choose any of his rivals, or would he go outside the field that ran for president this year?

I don’t know. I don’t really have the foggiest idea. But it’s an interesting question.

And wouldn’t you pay good money to see a debate between Newt Gingrich and Joe Biden?
