I have to admit, cynic that I am, that upon seeing the headline my first thought was “So, he’s pulling a Hillary. How’d that work out?”
Seeing the actual video doesn’t really crack off any of my cynicism, but let’s allow that the incredible stress of the campaign, the loved-yesterday-hated-today nature of the electorate and the polls, the attack ads that in Newt’s case get particularly personal, plus the chance to get a bit nostalgic about something nice for once, can have their effects. And while for Hillary, crying as she was the first serious female candidate from what is perceived as the softer party on national security did not project the image she needed to project, for Gingrich, it does show a more human side than we tend to see out of him. And it seems genuine.
Besides, we’re in the holiday season and he’s talking about his mom singing in a choir. Who can blame the guy for getting a bit weepy?
Now, if he dips into history and ends up comparing this moment to the tears shed at Gethsemane, I’ll be back with a righteous hammering.

Preston, if you have nothing to say, then why say it?
Newt has taken a major hammering from every direction. I’ve seen video of clowns walking up and calling him a f***** a****** and then smirking like they have really accomplished something. Whooppee. Not that I think a Gingrich presidency is the best we could do, but it’s no wonder he’s gotten a little emotional.
Maybe he’s remembering how his cancer stricken wife cried when he delivered the divorce papers to her in the hospital.
Hmm…it’s 2012; conservatives are huddled in the hospital ‘bed,’ and Mr. Crymeariver drops by with the news that he’s found hisself a new luv…tosses the papers onto the nightstand, turns on his heel and exits the room with Nancy Pelosi hanging on his arm.
And then, taxpayers can expect that after a short fling, he’ll bail on Nan for…oh, lessee…maybe Hillary.
No to Newt.
I realize this is supposed to be pointed, “ironic” sarcasm — but for that premise to work, it needs to be based on something TRUE. And you know the cancer-wife-divorce-papers@hospital just isn’t. She’s said it, the kids have said it, it’s been dealt with on every level. I really dislike Newt, so I’m not defending him (or his 3-strikes & yer out! serial cheating), but jeez, Louise. Pls. don’t use an old, refuted & rehashed blah-blah-blah that never goes anywhere because it means nothing. It’s a lie; a scam. DROP IT.
