job creation? GM’s medical devices division, headquartered in Waukesha since 1947, just announced they’re moving to Beijing!

protecting schools? experienced, advanced degree teachers have retired this year in the thousands because of Gov’s threats to retirement and devaluation of their skills. Gov’s assertion is that cheaper, inexperienced young teachers with no say in working conditions (no bargaining power) will do just as well!!

Since Nixon’s time, we’ve had to ask ourselves about these public figures: are they that stupid, or that evil, which is it, really?

Scott Walker is the best thing to happen to Wisconsin and its budget in a long time. The only school districts in trouble are those that rushed to extend their unions’ contract under the wire, before the budget became law. You see, the unions had an agenda because with these extensions the unions get to keep their payroll deduction of union dues. Districts that waited are saving tons of cash simply by being freed of the collectively-bargained requirement that they purchase insurance from the union-led WEA-Trust insurance provider. Not to mention the ability to re-write employee handbooks to include realistic agreements for things like sick-days and pay increases based on merit rather than seniority. I guess if I were a lousy teacher that called in sick a lot I would probably be upset, too. But I’m not.
No gloom and doom here in Wisconsin. I am proud of us!
