The North Korean military props up the hermit state, and for decades was insulated from the effects of country’s moribund economy. As children starved or subsisted on grass or whatever they could find, the military was kept well fed. But according to video captured by a North Korean man over the course of several months, the military itself has joined the ranks of the starving.
In the footage, a party official is demanding a stallholder make a donation of rice to the army.
“My business is not good,” complains the stallholder.
“Shut up,” replies the official. “Don’t offer excuses.”
It is clear that the all-powerful army – once quarantined from food shortages and famine – is starting to go hungry.
“Everybody is weak,” says one young North Korean soldier. “Within my troop of 100 comrades, half of them are malnourished,” he said.
Jiro Ishimaru is the man who trained the undercover reporter to use the hidden camera.
“This footage is important because it shows that Kim Jong-il’s regime is growing weak,” he said.
“It used to put the military first, but now it can’t even supply food to its soldiers. Rice is being sold in markets but they are starving. This is the most significant thing in this video.”
North Korea is in the midst of another major famine, and the heir apparent to the Kim throne, Kim Jung-un, is an unaccomplished 28 years old.

Let them eat uranium.
How dare you say that to the poor suffering masses in N.K., who have absolutely NO say whatever in government or spending! Dont you suppose they would prefer that their government DID spend the money on rice so they don’t have to starve to death?! This shows your appalling ignorance of the true situation!
I read that ICC in The Hague has issued an arrest warrant on Khadaffi. This is a man that the west dares to mess with. But how about the real bad guy in North Korea ? I forgot, he has a bomb. So please stop Iran´s bombmaking before it´s to late.
Not only do they have a bomb, but they are backed by China who, although not willing to feed the N.K.’s made it plain to the US Govt some months ago when there was trouble (over explosions on some island), that they were right behind N.K. Since all the trade deals achieved in recent times with China, the US is reluctant to go charging in on a white horse and play the rescuer for the N.K.’s-it looked likely-Clinton gave the fighting rhetoric to NK, but as soon as China got on board, the US backed off. Now, there are millions starving in NK-no not “facing” starvation-starving to death in the streets and in their dwellings.
Then we have the village idiot Jimmy Carter saying the United States is committing human rights violations by not send North Korea food w/o any strings attached. How that moron became our President has always been a wonderment to me.
The real wonderment is how our current president has been able to one-up Carter. With Obama the hits just keep on coming so fast it is hard to keep up.
Hey you statists, socialist, and central planners out there; North Korea….yet another spectacular failure of your beloved philosophy to be treated as an anomaly.
I guess the sale price of combat-ready nukes isn’t as high as people thought.
