American taxpayers pay for 350 pound diaper-wearing baby role-playing adult
If there was ever a better symbol of what a fiscal mess we are in, I don’t know what it is. The Washington Times has this must read story today about Stanley Thornton. If you read nothing else today, read this. Thornton spends his days pretending he is a 350 pound adult baby. He sleeps in a crib, drinks from a bottle and wears (and presumably uses) diapers. His female roommate acts as his “nurse” giving him bottles and cleans him up. You are paying for them both through Social Security disability.
Stanley Thornton Jr. and his roommate, Sandra Dias, who acts as his “mother” . . . are collecting Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits instead of working.
Senator Tom Coburn is not amused.
Coburn “has asked the Social Security Administration to investigate how people who live their lives role-playing as adult babies’ are able to get taxpayer-funded disability payments – after one of them was featured on a recent reality TV episode wearing diapers, feeding from a bottle and using an adult-sized crib he built.”
The story gets even weirder. After being contacted by the Washington Times about his life as a diaper wearing freeloader, Thornton threw a tantrum:
“You wanna test how damn seri
ous I am about leaving this world, screw with my check that pays for this apartment and food. Try it. See how serious I am. I don’t care,” the California man said. “I have no problem killing myself. Take away the last thing keeping me here, and see what happens. Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.”

“Thorton threw a tantrum”
Ah, more intellectual discourse from the Entitlement Society. How refreshing.
Sounds good to me. Need a firearm?
Now, now, we can’t encourage suicide….
But, we can’t give in to blackmail over it, either,
So….let’s take away his blankie and cut off his feeding at the government trough, and see what he really does….
Maybe he will get a job n quit being a freak.
This is the type of thing that makes taxpayers crazy. With all the people who are truly in need of help in the country, this is obscene.
Exactly the response one would expect from a baby. Yes, this is profoundly frustrating. I remember watching videos of this guy. I pitied him then, but didn’t think it was much my/our business. But if we’re paying for it, it very much is my/our business.
“Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.”
Zzzzzzzzzzziipppppppp.
He needs to be sent to bed without supper!
“I have no problem killing myself. Take away the last thing keeping me here, and see what happens. Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.”
I’m ok with that.
If the SS takes away his free lunch, he probably won’t off himself yet (that would mean he would actually have to GET OUT OF BED, you see, and do some work.) No, probably what he would do is send his nurse over to the NEA and ask for a grant for his “performance art.” Anyone wanna bet they wouldn’t fund him?
Cato I agree with you whole-heartedly. In fact, I think there are many man-children running around our nation, just not as noticeable.
Think about this guy next time someone in the .gov tells you we have to raise the debt ceiling or our country will DIE!!1!!!11!!
OW my head, it hurts. I just read the article… It is definitely worth reading…
-Warning Spoilers-
This guy constructed his own fantasy world and then shopped for found a doctor that would sign off on his disability?
-and this “nurse” that gets disability for playing fantasy time dress up with this guy?
How in the world could she get disability? The article clearly states that he is able to take care of himself (that whole knowing what would be embarrassing is a big clue), so how is she “taking care of him”?
Game over, our nation is over.
“Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.”
I’d say he’s very mature for a giant baby.
…that’s two body bags stitched together in his case.
Take away the last thing keeping me here, and see what happens. Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.”
He says that like it’s a bad thing. Think about it moron. If you die, we can pony up another $1000 to have you cremated, then start saving on SSI and free up an apartment for a homeless family that wants to contribute to society.
Taking yourself out is a win win for society and the gene pool.
I saw BLAZING SADDLES too – this is merely an updated version of Clevon Little’s self-abduction/hostage scene……….”…………… stand back or I’ll shoot”…….. as he held the gun to his own head in a hotile crowd. Does this guy want to exit this world via electrcution, poison or fatal gunshot wound??? We’ll make the arran.gements for his role of a lifetime………………………..
First thing I though of, too…
Who would have guessed he’s from California?
If you dare, here’s the NatGeo segment.

If he truly envisions himself as an infant, I hope he doesn’t spoil the illusion by voting.
‘Cause we sure know which way he votes!
I think it’s time for Mr. Thornton to climb out of his crib, put on his big-boy underpants, and get a freaking job like MOST of the rest of us.
Every dollar you take in, Mr. Thornton, takes food out of the mouths of REAL babies.
Don’t kill yourself–just grow up and become a contributing member of society.
And your little nurse too.
Blanche, you are so right, if he thinks he’s a baby, then when does he think he will grow up.
To each their own, but when his own becomes a burden on the rest of us not so good. I’ve met others that do that same fantasy, but come on, sometimes you just have to take the breast out of your mouth, grow up, get a hair cut and get a real job. people like this shouldn’t be shown on TV, they should be arrested for fraud.
This brings me to tears. Not because this fidiot is an obese nut job using the system but because so many people who truly need disability can’t get it. I live in chronic pain and can barely walk with fatigue and brain fog so bad that a lot of times I’m a walking zombie. I know others who have it worse than me yet we can’t get assistance. I worked from the time I was 15 until three years ago when it became impossible. Everyday I hear these types of stories. Like the folks on SSDI because of panic attacks working in a bar and getting paid under the table. Or the Mayor who runs a marathon collecting SSDI. It’s sick.
“You wanna test how damn serious I am about leaving this world, screw with my check that pays for this apartment and food. Try it. See how serious I am. I don’t care,”
Challenge Accepted.
If nothing else, this crazy man and his mama could make money in a circus side show and get off of the government dole!
What an idiot.
If he wanted a free ride at taxpayer expense, why didn’t he become a Pentagon contractor?
Okay, so Thornton is obviously a first-class nut. But, what about this so-called “mother?” Is she a nutjob, too? Sounds to me like they are NOT crazy and are just scamming us taxpayers. I agree with CatoRenasci. Yank the teet and calls this guy’s bluff.
I keep repeating….
The nation is broken from the bottom up…not the top down!
This makes me angry. I am a person with a real disablity and I was turned down for benifits. So someone tell me how this fat jackass can get it? If he wants to kill himself let him do it!
Hope he does die. I am hopeful.
To me, this sounds an awful lot like a small child saying, “Don’t you make me…or I’ll hold my breath ’till I turn blue and DIE…and you’ll be sorry!!”
So maybe he is a big baby after all!
that guy needs to get his fat ass up go get a job calif needs to run his roomate out intog srteet to et in a prodtive action .
At least baby lard boy knows that suicide is a logical solution to ‘the’ problem
I want to tell you all something. I saw this show and was sick to my stomach. Then when this investigation started, I found out that I know Stanley but never met him-like so many of you he is one of my “online” friends that I know from a health forum for a disease that could hit anyone of you. Then I was even more disgusted. Then I remembered all the things he shared over the years-and YES AMERICA he is disabled. Then I remembered all the stories he shared of what led him to this point and trust me you would much rather spend a few of your tax dollars than walk in his shoes. Then I thought of how helpful he was to me when my husband died a few months back and I cried. Then I thought of all the conclusions I jumped to over the years by not having the whole story and then I was disgusted not by him but by myself.
