This morning I appeared on a panel at CPAC with National Review’s Andy McCarthy and Hans von Spakovsky of the Heritage Foundation. We three DOJ vets discussed “Lawlessness, Racialism and Terror at Obama’s Department of Justice.”
From the Don’t Throw Me in the Briar Patch file, TPM Muckraker picked up a portion of my speech when I described how the Housing Section at the DOJ won’t have an office “picnic” because the word picnic is viewed as racially insensitive. I’ve talked about this many times, but apparently TPM found it so outlandish and crazy that I had to be making it up, so they posted it. Thanks guys, but I suspect you’ll be yanking that story shortly when you do some checking, because it’s true and widely known. In fact, I suspect the particular Housing Section lawyers crazed enough to believe it don’t want their names used, and I won’t. But the lunacy at Eric Holder’s DOJ has even outpaced TPM Muckraker, and that’s really saying something.

No, saying picnic is racist? Maybe TPM is sure watermelon and fried chicken wasn’t mentioned in the same sentence?
You can check Snopes for details. Somehow the urban legend began that picnics were for the purpose of lynching Blacks, and that the name itself is a contraction of “pick a n****r.” Because as we all know, nothing completes an outdoor meal like murder. And the accepted French etymology of the word is obviously a cover up.
The claim is idiotic, but since when has idiocy hindered the race hustlers?

TPM may scoff, but I recall the truncated career of DC Mayoral aide David Howard, who lost his job because of the racially hypersensitive chorus of ignorance reacting to the his use of the word “niggardly”.
