Ronald Reagan's unreflected life

George Weigel has this moving article on Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II. It recounts a conversation with two degrees of separation between the Pope and the President in 2001 that tears the heart.   Weigel had the privilege of writing John Paul’s authorized biography with access to the Pope’s private papers.  The first third of the book details the campaign of the KGB and Polish Secret Police against him.  This history demonstrates how evil can become obsessed with gentle holy people who are sustained by nothing more than the power of truth, goodness and human dignity.  It is a story that repeats and repeats across the industrial totalitarianism of the 20th Century.
