The Protocols of the Elders of NPR
As well they should, Nation Public Radio is backing and shuffling fast to cover the public humiliation of the promulgation of a video showing NPR execs playing funding footsie with two putative donors masquerading as representatives of a Muslim Brotherhood front group.
NPR is quick to point out that one of the executives, Ron Schiller, left the company a week ago for reasons unrelated to the release of the video. They fail, however, to explain why the other executive present, institutional giving director Betsy Liley, is still with the company. It is Lilely who registers her unequivocal approval at NPR being called “National Palestinian Radio.”
Rep. Eric Cantor, upon viewing the video (which is now viewable in an unedited version), has called for a defunding of NPR, given our economic straits. That is the least of it. What this video demonstrates most of all is the cultural and ideological ignorance of modern liberalism, more dangerous even than the millions donated to NPR.
What this video reveals is a festival of projection. NPR’s own blog contains some of the evidence:
- “The Tea Party is fanatically involved in people’s personal lives and very fundamental Christian — I wouldn’t even call it Christian. It’s this weird evangelical kind of move.”
- “Tea Party people” aren’t “just Islamaphobic, but really xenophobic, I mean basically they are, they believe in sort of white, middle-America gun-toting. I mean, it’s scary. They’re seriously racist, racist people.”
As someone who supports many Tea Party views and is a former civil rights worker and also the next thing to an atheist, I had to laugh at that one. But that’s nothing compared to this:
- “I think what we all believe is if we don’t have Muslim voices in our schools, on the air … it’s the same thing we faced as a nation when we didn’t have female voices.”
Holy Moly! It’s hard to imagine Betsy Lily sat there without comment, considering Sharia law — supported on their website by the people in front of her — has some of the most Draconian provisions against women in recorded history. Is the explanation for this, as some have suggested, that they were just trying to raise funds at any cost?
That journalistic trope goes pretty thin. I will suggest another explanation: They are stupid. Lost in a delusional world of political correctness, the elders of NPR have forfeited the ability to think critically. They simply can’t see the facts anymore — or don’t care to. It’s too threatening to their limited weltanschauung. Hence, you get idiotic projections such as Schiller’s statement of how dumb Republicans are and how what America needs is more educated elites.
That they all sat there through the worst kind of anti-Semitic bilge that would make even George Soros and Pat Buchanan blush is as predictable as it is sickening.
What is needed now is not just the defunding of NPR, but also its marginalization. And one of the best ways to marginalize is through well-deserved ridicule. The authors of this video at Project Veritas are thus greatly to be praised. Yes, what they have done is a form of entrapment, but the fools who were trapped deserve it as much as any knave in a Moliere play. NPR and its clones are the true reactionaries of our time. They are no more liberal than Boss Tweed. Taking off their masks is a public service.

Defund them now, the alliance marxist – islamic totalitarians must not be funded by the Citizens.
“National Palestinian Radio” ? Ten years after September Eleven and after all the other attacks against America ? TRAITORS !
Agree. Defund now! Now! Today!
They’re ignorant of their ignorance. They have substituted a silly caricature of their political opponents in place of reality. They don’t even know that they don’t know what their political opponents stand for. Absolutely crazy. We see this all the time, from Jon Stewart on down. They’ve swallowed their own self-serving narratives of their enemies. We shouldn’t pretend to take them seriously anymore. They’re hacks, so isolated in their political bubbles that they are incapable of seeing through even the craziest of ruses. It would be funny if it weren’t so damned destructive.
“They don’t even know that they don’t know what their political opponents stand for.”
This sentence utterly nails it, and it’s one of the most important memes that needs to take root among libertarians and conservatives. I think most people are already aware of this reality, but it doesn’t get articulated nearly enough.
It’s perhaps the biggest frustration about the current state of our political conversation: The left is constantly arguing against a strawman. That’s what makes the whole thing so wearisome. It’s impossible even to arrive at honest disagreements with the modern left, to settle on the fundamental areas of dispute, because the left can’t or won’t acknowledge the real arguments of its opponents.
The strawman emerges in so many different forms, from the “bitter racists” caricaturing to the post-Giffords “rhetoric” insanity. And so our REAL arguments — the ones about liberty and individualism and the proper role of government — rarely get engaged. As the poster “ern” says, they don’t know what their opponents stand for — and moreover, they don’t even KNOW they don’t know that — and so the whole thing winds up a maddening waste of time.
Yup, what you both said. Meanwhile, we’re all circling the bowl because we’re too busy being astounded by the left’s insanity to stop the train wreck they and the islamist horde have planned for us.
No, liberals don’t understand us, and so instead they shadowbox a composite of Stock Right-Wing Villains out of central casting. Partly its the result of the Echo Chamber; but partly, I think its whereas all conservatives were once adolescents, liberals still are- adult thinking is beyond them.
NPR is a slightly cleaned up version of Pacifica Radio, and both were founded by post world war 2 liberals and their foundations. Their mission is laid out here: http://clarespark.com/2010/10/21/links-to-pacifica-memoirs/. As a veteran of “public radio” I have had much experience with this mindset. See also http://clarespark.com/2009/12/16/perceptions-of-the-enemy-the-left-looks-at-the-right-and-vice-versa/, if you have not already. I had to constantly update it yesterday because of Schiller’s unbelievable diatribe. I would not be too complacent, however, my friends who are conservative and libertarian. We all have our blind spots when diagnosing political factions. It took me many years to figure out what people were fighting about, and I still may not have exhausted the subject. Leave a comment on these blogs if you have corrections and comments.
Yes, and the irony is that they believe themselves to be so well educated. In fact, they are not only ignorant but incurious (if such a word exists?) They make things up, repeat them, believe them, and ignore all evidence to the contrary. People from NYC’s upper West side could not be bothered taking the 2 or 3 train down to Chambers Street to observe the first tea party rally in City Hall Park two years ago. If they had they would have seen an orderly, largely middle- upper-middle class, professional, group of folks protesting against higher taxes and big government. And this has been the case with just about every TEA Party rally I have ever seen described. And yet, the “racist, xenophobic, blah blah” image remains and spreads. (Did I mention that these people wear overalls, drink moonshine, carry rifles in the back of their trucks, are the products of inbreeding, and natch, are sub-normal in their intelligence? DEFINITELY NOT educated, sophisticated, nuanced, civilized, rational, kind, lovely people like the ones who work at NPR!<=Sarcastic comment alert!)
“They’re ignorant of their ignorance. They have substituted a silly caricature of their political opponents in place of reality.”
It is their reality. Their primitive need to a boogie man. And the caricatures have been increasing in lock step with their growing realization that Obama and the Democrats are corporate and bankster tools, the complete opposite of how the Democrat politician sold themselves. Imaginings of “tea baggers” is escapism for them, and ego-defense, a protection of their identity as the “smart ones”.
To some readers of my post: If you believe Obama is a “socialist”, you will not understand my post.
Yeah, some people are defending them by saying that it’s just fundraising.
The same people who think anyone who takes money from the Koch Fdn. should be drawn and quartered.
And they’re the same people who support the “Fairness Doctrine”, i.e., the unconstitutional silencing of everyone who disagrees with them.
This is what Hope&Change! really looks like.
Whores.
The NPR folks are not stupid. Their logic is impeccable:
Premise 1: Anyone who disagrees with our liberal agenda is an ignorant, right-wing, fundamentalist Christian.
Premise 2: The tea-party partipants disagree with our liberal agenda.
Therefore: The Tea Party is an ignorant, right-wing, fundamentalist Christian organization.
Personally, I think it would have been quite amusing if the undercover donors had asked “I am curious about your federal funding. Where in the U.S. Constitution is that authorized?”
You left out “gun-toting redneck”.
The ends justify the means!
Viva la Socialist Revolution!
“That they all sat there through the worst kind of anti-Semitic bilge that would make even George Soros and Pat Buchanan blush is as predictable as it is sickening.”
Sat through?! THEY CONTRIBUTED. Check who remarked about the newspapers being “Zionist owned” — it was Schilling.
The Schiller video portrays an incident of intellectual and moral prostitution. The man is probably decent enough under normal circumstances — I rather doubt he’d condone clitorectomies or Islamic executions of homosexuals, for example — but he demonstrated a willingness to sit up and beg before persons with a significant amount of money that he might be able to get for his organization.
Sadly, many persons in the media, whether as recognized personalities or as behind-the-scenes executives and facilitators, would behave exactly as Schiller did. Their business is about providing images and illusions in exchange for money; wherefor should they limit themselves to wholesome images and illusions in exchange for clean money?
“The man is probably decent enough under normal circumstances…”
Really? With the issue he apparently has with Jewish-owned newspapers?
The man is a bigot.
“I rather doubt he’d condone clitorectomies or Islamic executions of homosexuals, for example”
But we can see that he won’t condemn those practices if it means a possible $5 Million donation, either. And neither does NPR as an organization.
“The man is probably decent enough under normal circumstances — I rather doubt he’d condone clitorectomies or Islamic executions of homosexuals, for example — but he demonstrated a willingness to sit up and beg before persons with a significant amount of money that he might be able to get for his organization.”
There is a great line in one of the Helen MacInnes novels; I think it is Venetian Affair. The Russian villain makes a comment about the French communist traitor who is making the suggestion to torture a confession out of someone. The comment is to the effect that a man with exquisite manners wearing custom made shirts will order that another person be tortured to screaming insanity, then consider himself to be superior to the thug who has to do the torture. The Russian isn’t complaining, merely commenting on the irony of life.
The NPR people behave the same way. The woman and the gay man who would no more live under Islam than fly, consider those who oppose Sharia Law and consider the Muslim Brotherhood to be evil as ignorant savages, clinging to their guns and Christian religion.
“The man is probably decent enough under normal circumstances…”
Are you sure about that? The guy came across to me as an idealogue. Lord only knows what he thinks about the more onerous aspects of sharia law. I would never dare to venture a guess……
#9, not decent enough to avoid the hate speech. By now it should be plain that from the top down, Obama for example, islam is not the enemy, no matter it’s various horrors. The enemy is us, and we are the ones hated. There’s too much of this going around on the left, they mean what they say, and it is psychotic.
” I rather doubt he’d condone clitorectomies or Islamic executions of homosexuals, for example — ”
Probably so, but he would call you a racist and a bigot for making the point.
Interesting Bill Maher’s comments on Islam were so little reported. See O’Reilly et al making this point (and also Maher’s original, surprising!, comment here: http://www.salon.com/news/bill_oreilly/?story=/politics/war_room/2011/03/15/o_reilly_maher_quran_double_standard
We can go one better than this NPR fiasco. The US Al-Jazeera English language execs, presumably employed in the USA on some kind of USCIS approved (and Labor Department certified) visa category, were trained and paid for by the taxpayers of Canada, as ex employees of their fully government funded Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
http://english.aljazeera.net/aboutus/2007/12/200861501043226986.html
Anyone in Congress reading this?
If you don’t like Al-Jazeera coverage, blame CANADA.
As a Canadian, I was very curious to read more about your allegations but the link you supplied doesn’t support any of what you said. It merely gave me a page with brief bios of TOny Burman and Sue Phillips and some additional links, none of which looked like they were talking about the matter you raised. Did you give the wrong link perhaps?
Actually there are other CBC alums at Al Jazeera, such as Avi Lewis and wife Naomi Klein (whose Jewish demographics make them interesting for Al Jazeera). CBC has had a number of cutbacks in recent years, so those folks do find jobs elsewhere. I really hate to seem to defend the CBC, which I detest, but I can’t see any basis for your accusation.
A man who conducted the Cornell Chorale, Cornell Chorus and Cornell University Glee Club bargains to accept money and to support Sharia, a legal system that would systematically behead most performers of such music.
BRAVO Roger
The university educated elite have proved their mettle with years of sitting on their backsides and memorizing and parroting back anything they hear.
What a bunch of highly paid PUTZES.
As Glenn Reynolds would say, “…the University credentialed – not educated – elite…”!
And, didn’t George Orwell say that only the product of a Post-Graduate education could say something so stupid?
Schiller is also a gay man living with his partner in Aspen, Colorado. Nice digs I’m sure. I wonder what the Muslim Brotherhood would think of his lifestyle? Does he even know or care?
and note that this man with the excellent table manners and tiny mind is floating over to the Aspen Institute with nary a moment on unemployment insurance.
Accusing others of being gay hardly holds the weight it used to, but still, it’d be nice to see you post some evidence to support that notion regarding Schiller. Thanks.
His official biography names the man he lives with as a “partner”.
It’s not that he’s gay — it’s that he’s so hateful towards people who disapprove of his being gay while being so accommodating towards those who would kill him for being gay.
But unless he is really gay that point (“he’s so hateful towards people who disapprove of his being gay while being so accommodating towards those who would kill him for being gay”) is rather moot.
I Schiller is clueless and out of touch with reality. He obviously never met a tea partier or he would know better. Some one should ask him how he knows what he claims.
People will stop donating to NPR and Aspen Institute. Liberals are losing a lot of support every time they accuse people of being racist because they want less government spending. Schiller owes an apology to a lot of people. The Aspen Institute should fire Schiller before he starts his new job there.
This video confirms that those people have ZERO regards for those they consider their “inferiors”. That is the typical attitude of a Ruling Class that has lost all connection whatsoever to reality and to regular Joes and Janes.
The whole public broadcasting racket should be de-funded, not just NPR. How can anyone justify, when our government is running trillion-dollar + deficits, paying for something that is totally equivalent to an entertainment subsidy for the benefit of the Ruling Class?
Who listens to NPR? Not those who have FM on their dials, talk radio or satellite.
Who watches PBS? Not those who would rather watch Discovery, History, Science, NatGeo, Fox News, Encore, etc. for a fee.
The only thing that comes from PBS that I pay for is PBS Kids’ Sprout, and that’s because I PAY for it with my cable. I don’t bother with the rest of it.
NPR and P-BS don’t need taxpayer money: they’ve said so themselves.
Taxpayers have already voted with their wallets, their dials and their remotes. If I don’t pay top dollar to watch or listen to crap on my daily life, why should I even bother to support it with my tax dollars? No taxpayer should be forced to pay for something they absolutely detest.
Y, we’re their “inferiors” so why do they stoop to take our inferior tax money? Defund the turds – I’m sure Georgie Soros can bust the Bank of England again if need be to find enough dough to keep these clowns on the air. For myself, I would only listen if the whole shebang fell into lake ObamaBeGone.
Schiller, having heard that the group planning to fund them was founded by members of the Muslim Brotherhood says not having Muslim “voices” in our schools and on the radio is like when we didn’t have female voices in our schools and on the radio. He literally does not comprehend the absurdity of this statement, given that the putative funding group has already told him it seeks to spread Sharia law. The stubborn disconnect in the mind of the contemporary leftist between, in this case, championing the “voices” of women and championing the “voices” of thiose who seek to (at the very least) silence women is a constant marvel. And this by a man who later in the tape waxes philosophical about the anti-intellectualism he claims is descending on the nation from, of course, the right.
Would not truth in advertising call NPR: New Progressive Rant. I listen to it every morning for their one after another news bits, instead of dwelling on a single issue for too long as does Fox. Their slant is obvious. The Car Guys is one of the more humerous shows. I do not want to pay for them.
Would not truth in advertising call NPR: New Progressive Rant.
No, nothing about their rants is new. It’s just the same old same old from the progressive playbook. But Notorious Progressive Rant fits the acronym and is more accurate. Just a suggestion….
Then again, Nitwit Propaganda Radio works too. As does Numbskull Political Rubbish. I’m sure we can come up with more if we work at it….
That is good. How about NationalSocialist Propaganda Repeater. I can usually handle their leftist spin until they start adulating Obama. My radio alarm is set to that station so that I can start my day with full blood pressure. It is good to know what they are thinking. It is ridiculous to attempt to understand why they think that way, as opposed to objective reporting.
I listened to “Car Talk” regularly. That was before I heard them talk about Conservatives. They made the people in this video sound like Sarah Palin. For that reason, “Click N’Clack” aren’t funny anymore. Try a thought experiment: imagine one of the Castro brothers delivering a stand-up routine. I bet you wouldn’t laugh. A shame, really.
National Pseudointellectual Radio.
“They are stupid. Lost in a delusional world of political correctness, the elders of NPR have forfeited the ability to think critically”
I’m sorry Simon, You are wrong
they are not stupid and they can think critically like anyone else.
The truth is that those people are pure lefty ideologues who believe America and the Jews are the enemies of their Utopian paradise. They are convince that
the only way to get to nirvana is to destroy America and get rid of the Jews.
TO: Leo
RE: Who’s ‘Sorry’, Now?
Have to agree with you. The apologists like Simon and Reynolds and all the rest of them who keep deluding themselves that Obama et al., are ‘stupid’ are really ‘stupid’ themselves.
They can’t ‘connect the dots’, so to say.
Regards,
Chuck(le)
[The Truth will out....]
I think what Roger means is that they have rendered themselves incapable of critical thinking by virtue of their ideology. Their ideology has trumped whatever intelligence and critical ability they may otherwise have. By “stupid,” he doesn’t mean they have no intelligence. He means they don’t use it and so end up with these blinkered, ossified, reactionary opinions unrooted from reality. I don’t think that’s much different from what you’re saying.
Precisely.
No, Roger. No, Victor.
The ideology defense, like the abuse excuse, is all wet. Free will and choice play their part in the acceptance of an ideology. Certain conditioned reflexes do come to exert their influence on thinking the deeper one gets, but in the long run, the ideology doesn’t possess a person, it’s the other way around all the way
P.S.
They’re not stupid. They’re clever, nasty, rat bastards, who know what they’re saying and doing.
I guess I’m with Roger. I’ve no doubt that these people are very intelligent. But if you want to claim that they know exactly what they’re doing and saying, that they really do hate Jews and want to implement Sharia law in the United States — or support those who do — well, we must then assume that they haven’t thought it through. Under Sharia, they would both become second-class citizens immediately, and if they dared open their mouths in the manner to which they are accustomed, they wouldn’t live long.
So either they don’t know what they’re saying, or they do and have failed to think it through. Either way, they’re intelligent people who are not using their intelligence.
I’m reminded of something Mark Twain once said: that a man who doesn’t read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them. Likewise, a person who can think things through analytically, but doesn’t, is no better than the person who can’t.
The question I’d love to ask someone like Schiller is: under what circumstances would you be willing to change your mind about Tea Party folks? I strongly suspect that he’d say “nothing”. I’d then be tempted to quote Keynes: “When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?”
respectfully,
Daniel in Brookline
I don’t understand the “they’re intelligent” meme. This is the same meme with regards to Obama.
Either they mean it and are basically evil; or, they don’t mean it and are ” they’re intelligent people who are not using their intelligence.”
To me this means that they are not intelligent. What’s the difference between a dumb person and one who is “intelligent” but doesn’t use it?
Personally I think they’re a mix of the two. They really don’t care what happens to others (they are evil) but they’re sure that it won’t happen to them (they are dumb).
STUPID, as in being in a STUPOR.
Or, as Orwell would say, their minds have been programmed to practice Stopthink automatically.
National Public Radio needs to become National Private Radio ASAP along with their television counterpart PBS. The video says it all.
I’d approve such a move, but as a taxpayer I’d like to be reimbursed for all the public funding that’s gone into the extra-special technical facilities in their productions studios, and other capital improvements that have built their audiophile reputations, and the royal salaries enjoyed by their executives. Let National Private Radio buy out National Public radio, from the funds eagerly contributed by their oh-so-unbiased sugar daddies such as George Soros.
I wouldn’t worry about that capital too much.
Technology is changing fast enough that they won’t be able to keep up.
Would you watch if they were broadcasting in black and white?
The equivalent is coming soon as they get left in the dust.
Wrong. Go check out their facilities at the nearest flagship station–mortar and bricks included–and tell me you think we should just cede all those goodies to people who call us retrograde haters.
NPR has accumulated some very nice property on our dime. Try walking in the front door of their publicly funded nests. It is a great point that they should be forced to return physical property for which the public paid.
Spot-on Roger. BTW Why are the Jews to blame for the ills of the world. We’ve had nothing but anti-Semitic rant after another for the past few weeks. Where is everyone’s decency?
“BTW Why are the Jews to blame for the ills of the world.”
Well, we get up early. Amazing how much you can get done when you get an early start.
Plus, we’re in cahoots with the Masons and the Illuminati.
“Plus, we’re in cahoots with the Masons and the Illuminati.”
Ahhhhhh….It all makes sense now.
Note: this is NOT a sarcastic question, but a real seeking for enlightenment: why are so many Jewish people in the tank with these NPR-types and other Islamophiles? Can someone enlighten me? (Don’t give me “self-hatred”; that is too trite.)
This is a perfect example of islamacism at work. It is stealth, plays on ignorance of people regarding history, culture, social issues, and defies the facade it presents. It brainwashes people and whomever they come into contact in the name of peace, conflict resolution, interfaith dialog, cultural relativism and false acculturation. It is a real life situation gone bad and NPR is a fine example of what is happening in every venue, every social function, educational facitilty, political venue and social and public policy forefront in America.
It is a shame that this has occurred with NPR, but be warned: the Muslim Brotherhood offers friendship and financing, but will never let you know who they really are. The research to find affiliation and links are there, but it appears so trusting, so why check it out?
ATTENTION: People from all walks of life, please do your homework, and if the name is Turkish, initiators of the Muslim Brotherhood, caveat emptor.
Of course, not all Turkish people are affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, as a matter of fact, that is another issue altogether with which Turkey currently struggles. Rest assured, however, that affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood are fundamental Islamists. Please do not be offended to think that I am so simple minded not to understand this disconnect. Also know, that just because I speak up about this does not mean that I am an ultra, ueber conservative, right wing, Christian, fundamentalist, militant fanatic either.
So, we should totally defund NPR because they use vile and unsavory methods, like suck up to distasteful fringe groups, when accepting $$ from others–gee, if this was the criteria used to cut off funding to every pet government project, we’d never spend a dime on anything.
I don’t think taxpayer funds should be used to fund any partisan cause, including NPR. NPR is so money hungry, they would kiss the Koch brothers’ collective butts if it meant a fat check.
So, we should totally defund NPR because they use vile and unsavory methods, like suck up to distasteful fringe groups, when accepting $$ from others–gee, if this was the criteria used to cut off funding to every pet government project, we’d never spend a dime on anything.
In the immortal words of Woody Allen, “You say that like it’s a negative thing”
I listen to NPR. It’s important to acquire information in many ways. As Sun Tsu said long ago:
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.
Eternal vigilance,
C
Who’s got the pool? Put $5 for me on “zero,” the number of times the captive media, i,e, ABCCBSNBCCNNMSNBC, mentions this story tonight, between 5 PM and 11 PM, est. I’m sure there’ll be a lot of Sheen stuff and the rumor that Palin’s cousin’s friend only showers four times a week, but not NPR racism.
They can’t afford to mention it. Remember, they trolled fake muslims through Nasacar events convinced that they would generate the same vitriol we see in this film. Indeed that they hold in their cold little hearts.
Roger-Ok, maybe they ARE just stupid, but, would you trust this guy to hide your family?
Saul Alinsky right about now is high five-ing across the rainbow.
Personalize it. Freeze it. Defeat it.
Right on, Project Veritas. Don’t stop now. Get them all.
Not just defund NPR. Defeat NPR. Eliminate NPR.
Yes, there’s the condecenscion that’s troubling. And the whorish desire to go along with whatever is being said, all for the sake of a few dollars.
But what really galled me was the complete doublespeak going on here. On one hand, NPR and the CPB say they absolutely NEED federal funds. Then you have this guy saying that not only do they not need them, but without federal funds they could say whatever they want to.
You have NPR officially saying that they aren’t biased, that their audience is made up of people from all walks and political beliefs; yet they employ people who are more than happy to discuss how ignorant they think all those nasty conservatives are. (Do the execs at NPR really think they have even a marginal number of conservatives listening to them on a regular basis, when they and their potential audience know the kind of spin NPR will put on most every story?)
They say how there’s no place in journalism for opinion; yet they fail to address all the opinion which prances about as news reporting by their own “journalists” and stations. And even when they’re desperately trying to play it fair, they still can’t get past a little dig here and there, just to reinforce with their intended liberal audience that they’re all part of the in crowd, lined up against the evil Tea Party…
How about a little less self-congratulatory preening over how fair you are and a little more honesty about your obvious biases? There’s nothing wrong with having biases as long as you make it clear they exist; the problem comes when you’re biased but pretend you aren’t. We all know — despite your protestations to the contrary — that you’re a biased organization. You know and we know it. Just admit it and be done with it.
You know, they keep saying there’s absolutely no connection between Schiller leaving and this tape. But they assiduously never mention that the tape was made on Feb 22, which is before Schiller announced his departure. I’m sure it’s all just a great big coincidence that his departure comes right after he lunches with some fake Muslims who want to give NPR a big pile o’ money… I’m sure he had no idea beforehand that if this lunch became public knowledge, it would end his career at NPR, and make it hard for NPR to continue to receive federal funding…
Here’s my suggestion: let’s cut an easy $90 million out of the budget today by pulling NPR and the CPB off the federal teat.
Why do people like this have jobs?
Back in the day, Lenin said that the bourgeois would sell him the rope that was meant to hang the bourgeois. Yep. From that perspective, the whole luncheon conversation captured so well on video, is a wonderful re-cap of Lenin’s very wise aphorism.
Leo and Chuck are close to the mark. Where they err is in assuming that the Left as a whole is homogeneous.
The rank-and -file Left is “stupid” in the sense of being intellectually paralyzed, their minds jammed up by the ideological detritus of over two hundred years of bad ideas. They don’t let themselves know where their road leads, lest they find themselves held resposible for it (they are wrong about that –they will not be absolved of the results merely by screaming “but I didn’t mean this !”)
The core Left, on the other hand, knows full well what they are doing. As such, they have been acting in bad faith at the table of the American polity since Herbert Croly.
They should be evicted entirely from the realm of serious, civilized political discourse, if such is to remain civilized.
Ah hahahahahahaha!
I may not totally approve of his methods, but they’re legal. That O’Keefe is one brilliant young man. And ruthless, a quality that conservatives have lacked for far too long considering what we’re up against.
So, think this’ll get as much air time on the MSM as the Walker tape, which told us nothing we didn’t already know? Didn’t think so. But it’s going to be seen where it needs to be seen the most- in Congress.
Ah hahahahahaha!
I have to admit, I do like Car Talk.
And Performance Today, Whad’Ya Know and Stardate. I support my local station- but NATIONAL Public Radio needs a trip out back to the woodshed. And they’re getting it.
Car Talk, seriously?
I’ve worked on my own cars for over 40 years, built a number of them from the frame up.
Those guys are more wrong than right.
If you have more than a passing interest in how engines work, I suggest a bit of light reading from – The Internal Combustion Engine in Theory and Practice, Volumes 1 & 2, by Charles Fayette Taylor. What Taylor didn’t know about ICEs isn’t worth knowing. Google him sometimes.
“They are stupid” skirts the edge of truth. I think it is more accurate to say that the brain of a liberal is defective. The neuron connections got screwed up at some point in their lives. The wiring is crossed and they can’t help themselves. The problem is that many of these people gravitate toward positions of power and governence over others-from the school board, to NGO’s, to the White House
“I will suggest another explanation: They are stupid. Lost in a delusional world of political correctness, the elders of NPR have forfeited the ability to think critically. They simply can’t see the facts anymore — or don’t care to.”
No Roger, it’s a deliberate alliance with the most evil and dangerous organizations in the world, who the left see as suitable allies to destroy normal Americans. They hate us far more than they fear sharia or any other of the head-choppers dalliances.
A lot of people are beginning to see it for what it is.
I don’t think that he disgusting, elitist, and anti-Jewish drivel spilled by the NPR executives is the most important part of this video; it’s the fact that the NPR execs saw nothing wrong in an Islamist group offering them millions of dollars that speaks volumes. Clearly, they see it as normal and obviously, they are aware that the Islamists generously spread money around. Now we know who the media, academia, and even government institutions take their orders from.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I hear rhetoric such that that expressed by Mr. Schiller every day. It isn’t something that is odd or unusual for current “progressives”, the sort of things he was saying is *typical* of the common rhetoric among them.
Schiller is apparently seeking a new job because he was caught on tape saying these things. I hear people saying similar things *every single day* and these are people who are devoted NPR listeners.
This should “shock” nobody at NPR and their trite masquerade that somehow they are surprised one of their own would hold these views is entertaining to watch.
Schiller accurately expressed the views of the majority of NPR listeners in my area. That NPR should be in any way “shocked” or “surprised” is false and everybody knows it.
I went over to the NPR website and read the comments section. What you say is absolutely true. Their defense is- no defense! They think Schiller is right on the money. It’d be pathetic if it wasn’t so dangerous.
It gets worse when you actually listen to their presenters on the air and see how they “dog whistle” certain issue. In many cases a report can communicate quite different information as it is presented than it is written. For example, even voice inflection can communicate quite a different message using the same words and you can’t pick that up from reading a written transcript of a broadcast. For example: Imagine the written sentence “Sarah Palin is an intelligent woman.”. Now speak that sentence as written. Now speak it again but speak the word “intelligent” as if you were using your fingers to put “scare quotes” around the word “intelligent”. Notice how when spoken as written the accent is on the second syllable and the inflection drops with each subsequent syllable. In the second case, the first syllable is much lower in inflection, accent on the second, third lower, and the fourth syllable rising a bit. That little change in inflection completely changes what is communicated. It says the speaker is being sarcastic in their use of the word “intelligent”. It conveys a completely different meaning as spoken than it does as written. NRP presenters, guests, and callers do this all the time and you can’t pick it up by reading a written transcript. You actually have to listen to it as it is being presented to actually “get” the message being communicated.
The same people who keep re-electing Nancy Pelosi, no doubt.
There are generally speaking only two kinds of liberals. (1) Power seekers, who would sell out their mothers and their country for short term gains of power, and who without exception are liars. (2) Dupes, fools who believe those lies.
I think there are two more categories:
(3) the “something for nothing crowd” who are only ideological in that they follow the pipers who allow them to get their elbows deepest into your pockets. This is actually the largest group. It includes “minorities”, teachers, some other union members, and the basement dwellers who scheme all day about how they can can pay for their drugs with your money.
(4) the “remora fish” who are riding with the marxists whales because they make a good living doing it; i.e., lawyers, GM executives and other croney capitalists, “journalists”, mouthpieces, the politicians who aren’t ideologues, university professors, union thugs. There is lots of overlaps amont this group and groups 1 and 3, but very little overlap with group 2. They are far too conniving to actually believe the marxist blather. Little Paulie Krugman is their spokesman.
The true believers are probably 1% or less. For most, it’s just the life strategy of professional criminals.
Don’t forget (5)- the ones who just want to watch the world burn. Like The Joker in “The Dark Knight”.
Or Charles Manson (“Helter Skelter”), the Weather Underground, the SDS, the Red Army Faction (Baader-Meinhof), etc., in real life. Exactly none of them were remotely close to “right-wing”.
/Just saying.

“watch the world burn”
You’re right about that. There are probably more nihilists than true believers. And their motivation is self loathing. They can’t stand watching other people succeed through work and perseverance; while the genius nihilists aren’t granted a free pass to riches and power. Nihilists are even more despicable than little lenin.
Or Bill Ayers’ wife, Bernadette Dohrn. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernardine_Dohrn.
It’s really unfortunate how exceptionally close-minded these rather anti-academic, faux-intellectuals are. I laughed at the claims at teaparty supporters/participants being some bizarre amalgam of “bible thumping racists.” As an educator of critical and continental theory, and a self-identifying tea partier who believes the state has become unsustainably large, unaccountable and demonstrating of fascist tendencies, I’m certainly one who you’d expect should have passing credentials. Goodness, as if educating on Foucault, Said, Heidegger and Husserl weren’t sufficient to wow the pedigreed liberals at their dinner parties. Observing that some of my Marxist-theory brothers and sisters are marching toward the same outcomes realized through Lenin, Mao and others is quite maddening.
By no means should any pragmatic, material-engaging concrete-experiencing individual feel lesser than some humanities student intellectual with a pedigreed diploma. If anything, the majority of those individuals are too inbred to think clearly, outside of the framing of their incestuous intellectual upbringing. Real intellectuals read, learn, communicate and engage their environment, testing the theories against the pragmatism of the experiment of life. As such, tea partiers represent a form of engaging discourse that is neither too ideological nor pessimistic. As long as my friends on the left continue their retreat into the self-validating mind-numbing programming of NPR, the NYTimes and other reclusive progressive media, the more irrelevant they ultimately become. The tea party has captured the spirit and vitality of Paris ’68.
Ich habe auch Heidegger studiert…. but I can assure you these bozos at NPR are clueless about anything more complex than the Geraldo Show.
The tea party has captured the spirit and vitality of Paris ’68.
What an odd remark. It is my understanding that the demonstrations in Paris ’68 which almost toppled the government were Marxist in nature and inspiration, not the work of groups like the Tea Party. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Paris_riots) largely shares my view, although points out that the PCF (the French Communist Party) eventually started siding with the government when they didn’t like the direction in which things were going. But the Wikipedia article also describes a fundamentally pro-left focus to the demonstrations. This is at great odds with the small government, Constitution-focused efforts of the Tea Party.
Agreed. The 1968 “Aux Barricades!” outburst was closer to the 1848 revolts across Europe, which resulted in the Paris Commune, among other things.
The book “1848- A Turning Point?” from the old “Problems In European Civilization” series (1959) makes it fairly clear that violent collectivists were the heart and soul of the 1848 events. While it is fashionable today to celebrate the revolts as a glorious protest against the likes of Metternich, it would be more accurate to define them as a bunch of would-be tyrants saying, “It’s our turn to decide who gets massacred- and we’re starting with you.”
1968 was more of the same in France. Both times, Western Europe dodged a bullet to the head. But not by much.

I don’t entirely approve either, but this is war, really.
We are too far along in a process that will destroy us to quibble over it. I wish we could always be totally ethical, but that hasn’t worked well. Not that the right has always been ethical, but by comparison…
These times are the most ominous in my almost 60 years. We have to watch every issue, fight every front, and stay strong. NPR & PBS are minor, but another front to hold. The Tea Party has developed into a major force, and we have to keep showing up – it doesn’t matter what they say about us.
Inevitably, liberals will attempt to distract from the revolting behavior of these NPR execs by attacking the methods used to obtain the video. Most likely, these same folks will have been silent about Wisconsin Gov. Walker recently being tricked by a blogger posing as a Republican campaign contributor… or possibly they enthusiastically supported it.
The moment liberals start whining about the methods used in this video, conservatives should pounce on them, and put them on the defensive by demanding to see evidence that they condemned the methods used against Gov. Walker as vociferously as they are condemning this video. If they can produce no proof, tell them to shut their partisan pie holes, and berate them for their blatant double standard.
Mr. Simon:
Looks like that O’Keefe kid has done it AGAIN, huh?
One wonders what the future holds for this intrepid wunderkind who can so easily stick it in and break it off in the Left’s behind?
Their howling and yammering are such a delight to my ears!
The argument against de-funding NPR and National Endowment for the Arts and etc is that, viewed from outer space, the amounts involved are tiny tiny, compared to the massive ‘entitlements’ problem.
However. Those tiny items employ the sort of people caught so nicely in today’s NPR luncheon video… and they are in the management side, with lovely large salaries. The cowboy poets, on the other hand, get a pat on the back and maybe a framed scroll (and a quiet little chuckle back in the Beltway, amusement at the lower class troglodytes who attend such festivals.)
Although, we note that the guy in the video (I can’t remember his name, but he has GREAT table manners), is already employed as some kind of art director at the Aspen Institute. Does the Aspen Institute receive funding from the troglodyte taxpayers???
In covering this story in their on-the-hour five minutes of news, NPR has had some guy on who says that this video will confirm conservatves’ suspicion that NPR is a run by “conspiratorial” liberals. I smell straw-man here. In all the criticisms of NPR bias I’ve seen, I don’t recall any mention of a “conspiracy” at work. It seems the NPR gang consists pretty much out-of-the-closet leftists. If they’re conspiring, they need to be a little more subtle and secretive about it.
Liberals are always quick to tell us how much more intelligent they are. How intelligent is it to talk this freely with people you have never met before? Not very, but it does tell us they speak this way easily, and feel quite comfortable doing so.
Of the two of them, I thought Liley the more reprehensible. I also caught her gleeful chuckle at being told that NPR is known as National Palestine Radio. She was essentially informed that even these Muslims recognize that NPR is biased and she thought it was a hoot.
They simply can’t see the facts anymore — or don’t care to.
The first part of your sentence absolves these people of responsibility, and I think that’s wrong. Any intelligent, thinking person can have his or her world view altered by indisputable facts, and come to see where they’ve gone wrong. If these are, as they claim, “educated elites”, then we have to conclude that they are willfully refusing to defend the principles of Western civilization. Whether they’re doing it out of a venal concern for raising funds, or they’re doing it because they truly believe in evil, is the only debatable question.
@37. nofreelunch
Milton Friedman often spoke about that. He called it an “unholy alliance” between do-gooders and those who profit from them.
The question is not “Why do Islamic terrorists hate America so much?”
Rather, it is “Why do so many liberal Americans hate their own country so much?”
ACORN: “We are an important group doing good work”
Hidden Vid: “But you guys are willing to aid criminal sexual abuse of minors and human trafficking.”
ACORN: “We are shocked at what that person did!”
Planned Parenthood: “We are an important group doing good work”
Hidden Vid: “But you guys are willing to aid criminal sexual abuse of minors and human trafficking.”
Planned Parenthood: “We are shocked at what that person did!”
NPR: “We are an important group doing good work”
Hidden Vid: “But you guys are willing to pander to anti-semetics and support their hate-based rhetoric.”
NPR: “We are shocked at what that person did!”
Hmmmmmm, why do I get a sense that you don’t need complex pattern recognition software to see where this is going.
And there you have hit upon the crux of “progressive” thought. It is all based on self-loathing. That includes their positions on national defense (we are an evil country who engages in unjust wars), environmentalism (we are an evil country who engages in destruction of the environment) and practically everything else. The entire movement seems to be based on self-loathing.
It’s not “self”-loathing. Listen to Schiller- “We are the intellectual elite, and the problem is that there aren’t enough of us.”
One of the hypocrisies of modern “progressives” is that they claim to “love mankind”, but they hate, fear, loathe, and utterly despise anyone who is not exactly like themselves. This video isn’t a revelation, it just shows typical progressives saying what they really think when they don’t know anyone not of the “faithful” is around to hear it. (Remember, The One’s remark about “bitter clingers” was made in front of a collection of liberal fundraisers when he was unaware he was being captured for posterity on a phone camera.)
As for being so enamored of people (the Muslim Brotherhood) who in the real world will happily kill Mr. Schiller and enslave Ms. Liley at the drop of a talwar, you must remember that the “enlightened elite’” believe that the Islamists are just one more group of “useful idiots” they can use to help destroy the civilization they despise- ours.
And that after the Triumph, those Islamist idiots will suddenly realize that they are too stupid to run the Brave New World- and will instantly fall on their knees and beg- beg!- the “enlightened ones” to rule it, with the Islamists as their adoring sycophants.
Never mind that it is the trappings of progressive thought and behavior that the Islamist find most offensive about our culture. Or that the Islamists view progressives as their own “useful idiots”- who they will be sure to bend over the headsman’s block first after they proclaim the New Caliphate. (One of the basic doctrines of Islam is that someone who has betrayed their own people to you will betray you in turn- so once they are no longer needed, you dispose of them so they don’t get the chance to do you over.)
Facts like these simply are not part of the progressive mental universe, and never will be until it’s far too late.
This is why “progressives” are impossible to reason with. You cannot argue logically with someone that detached from reality.

“Protocol of the Elders of NPR” LMFAO!!!!!!!
If Congress can’t get this defunding done, then what hope is there for the big, important cuts?
Watching the response of the MSM media is but another example of their pretzel logic. They immediately try to turn the story into how unethical O’Keefe is in setting up the sting operation. Meanwhile, they hand out Pulitzer prize awards to many in their news organizations that do the same thing. The CBS show, 60 Minutes, perfected these types of stings and got accolades from their peers for being brave, heroic, doing what it takes to get to the truth, etc. It is priceless watching the MSM reactions when they don’t like the outcome and can not control the spin, they are so predictable.
As much as I applaud O’Keefe’s work, and as infuriated as I often am with the mainstream media, I have to take issue with this. Mainstream news organizations actually DON’T engage in this sort of sting. Falsifying one’s identity is absolutely taboo for mainstream news outlets — it’s an egregious violation of their ethics policies. It’s an immediate firing offense.
The Society of Professional Journalists issued a scathing attack on the Internet “journalist” who pretended to be David Koch for that phone prank on Gov. Walker, and alerted real news organizations to be careful in their reporting of the incident.
There are enough real problems with the U.S. news media and its political coverage; we don’t need to invent problems that don’t exist. Accusing them of stuff they don’t actually do — stuff they in fact are deeply against — is not helpful to our battle here.
There was a group of “journalists” caught through leaked e-mails throwing ideas around of how to pin “racist” labels on people they didn’t agree with during the 2008 presidential campaign. They supported Obama. So much for objectivity.

Truly sick people. Any doubt in them that islam is not the enemy, in any way or number? Again, they hate us more then even the murderers of islam. Vicious stupid people,& they can call themselves liberals or progressives, but murder is in their own hearts.
Yes, this was entrapment, just like CBS’s 60 Minutes has been doing for decades. GAWD they so want the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” back, 3 TV channels, one unified Leftist voice.
Their hypocrisy reminds me of the scene in the documentary “Kurt & Courtney” where the President of the ACLU begins shouting down, and then physically removes the documentary’s director, as the director was asking the assembled ACLU elites if it made sense for the ACLU to honor their keynote speaker – Courtney Love – in light of the repeated documented death threats she has made against journalists. Good question! http://www.hulu.com/watch/120343/kurt-and-courtney
The ACLU and Courtney Love – both great enemies of Free Speech – deserve one another.
I don’t care what they do or what they say, as long as I don’t have to pay for it.
NPR, and everything else associated with it (basically anything associated with the CPB) was basically established so that rich liberals could get the rest of the taxpayers to pay for the sort of entertainment rich liberals prefer.
CPB, NPR, PBS should never have existed in the first place, and ought to be completely defunded, stripped of their non-profit status, and forced to pay back every single dime that has been extorted from taxpayers since 1970 (with interest) so that lefties, who pull down six figure salaries, can get their jollies listening to opera or Nina Totenberg hold forth, while someone else picks up the tab.
If you want to listen to nitwits like Garrison Keillor, fine by me. But, you pay for the privilege, not me.
No more welfare for the rich.
I just want to share a story I heard years ago. It was presented as a joke but it’s the kind of joke that contains a deeper wisdom.
–
A man gets onto an elevator and sees the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. He realizes he has got to have her. He says, “You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Would you, er, sleep with me for a million dollars?” The woman looks suprised by his unexpected outburst, then thoughtful, and says “Well, okay….”. The man then says “Would you sleep with me for ten dollars?” Her face clouds over and she slaps him hard. “What kind of woman do you think I am??” He replies “I think we already established that with your answer to my first question. Now, we’re just dickering over the price!”
–
For those who wonder how NPR could contemplate receiving funding from Muslims that would ultimately negate the rights of the very women they seek to give a voice, I submit that the NPR executives were like the woman in my “joke”: they already knew they’d do anything for the right price.
–
One other thing. Google put some interesting ads up on this page, presumably based on the topic matter and my location (Canada). One of the ads offered Muslim Women’s Swimwear. I was curious to see what Muslim women wear when swimming and clicked on the link. I was taken to a Canadian online clothier apparently specializing in clothes and accessories for Muslim men and women. Here is their page showing Muslim sportswear for women, which is the closest I could come to Muslim Swimwear: http://www.shukr.ca/Sportswear-C86.aspx. Strangely enough, in all of the categories I examined, the clothing reveals only the hands and (sometimes) the faces of the women. Nothing else is revealed, even in the sportswear.
The way the models pose, to me conveys sexuality and independence, something entirely opposite of what I would expect a Sharia-compliant Muslim man would tolerate.
I have long maintained that the self annointed elite have gone from biased to braindead. It is a travesty that once great institutions have devolved into leftist daycare centers. All funding should be cut off, or more appropriately be funded under Headstart.
“the self annointed elite have gone from biased to braindead”
nah, they’re just getting over on you.
It’s their job (i.e., scamming money from the government and unsuspecting students). Of course, some of them have done it so long that they now believe it as well. If that’s all you hear from everybody every day, after a while you have to beleive its the truth. In that way it’s a self fulfilling prophesy, which may explain why so many jews are leftists. They hang around with other leftists so much that after a while they forget that the ones who aren’t Jews hate Jews to the core. Even some of the Jews become Jew haters. It’s kind of human nature to eventually give in to even an odious philosophy if that’s all you ever hear.
NPR/PBS mentality:
- Federal funding of NPR = good!
- Federally enforced “Fairness Doctrine” silencing conservatives = even better!!
The left always turns to authoritarianism. Always.
Ya know what’s most fascinating to me?
The lack of the usual trollish suspects here to defend NPR.
Wonder where they all went to?
“Ya know what’s most fascinating to me? The lack of the usual trollish suspects here to defend NPR. Wonder where they all went to?”
I dunno where the “usual trollish suspects” went, but the “female trollish” NPR defenders are busy shopping for burkas.
I heard NPR just hired John Galliano as their new fundraising chairman.
Having once worked for a local PBS/NPR outlet I can attest to the fact that fundraisers are paid a commission on the funds they raise. This isn’t so much about elitist’s ignorance as they are selling their souls for almighty coin.
Calling them whores is appropos.
I suppose the bottom line is that if it is “National Public Radio” then it should reflect the national public and not just one wing of it. According to Rasmussen’s “Partisan Trends” of March 1, 2011, 35.1% of Americans are Republicans, 34.3% are Democrats. That would leave 30.6% of other assorted political stripe.
“National Public” radio should do a better job of reflecting the National Public and place less emphasis on attempting to influence it if it is going to call itself that. Otherwise it is simply a charade that we all (on both sides) pretty much see though anyway.
National Public Radio does not reflect or in any way represent the national public of the United States. They reflect the far left wing of it.
Hear, hear! That nails it. Why shouldn’t NPR be forced to diversify its staff so it ‘thinks like America’?
Yeah, yeah, there would be yelling and fisticuffs between the competing factions for airtime and broadcast facilities, but they’d have unprecedented opportunities to develop empathies for folks outside their current echo chamber.
Time to cut the parasites loose. Gotta start somewhere. These suckers need extermination, much less a life sucking on someone else.
I’m going with the “ignorant of their ignorance” theory (at least for most Liberals).
I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again. Typical Liberals are among the most intellectualy provincial people you could ever meet. I’ve taught high school for many years, and I’ve seen this first-hand.
Look at it this way. Once you truly believe that all truth is just opinion, and reality is just a perspective, it basically absolves you of the need to actually wrestle with ideas. Modern “multiculturalism” is the end-stage manifestation of this. After all, if cultures have no substantive differences, why bother actually learning about them? It’s a form of rationalized laziness.
I know Lefties who have lived and travelled all over the world, and yet they still think this way. The go, they admire the quaint villages and sip the local brew, take home a piece of folk art to hang on the wall, and then call themselves cultured.
I’ve talked to people who have lived and taught school in the Middle East, and yet still haven’t even heard of the Muslim Brotherhood.
NPR does not stand for “National Palestinian Radio”?
On a somewhat related note having to do with the size and role and scope of government:
If there’s a shutdown, “essential” personnel and “essential” functions will continue to be performed, while everyone else is sent home.
If there are so many “non-essential” federal workers, why are we paying them?
Further to the interesting relationships among our ‘betters’ and the nifty jobs they float to: go to
http://www.aspeninstitute.org/news/2011/03/03/aspen-institute-taps-ronald-schiller-new-head-arts-program
dated March 3, telling us all about how wonderful it is that Ron Schiller is going to come on over to Colorado and do his magic in the artistic atmosphere of the Aspen Rockies. To Quote:
“Schiller has spent more than two decades working in the arts and in education. As head of the National Public Radio Foundation, he helped establish much greater collaboration in fundraising between NPR and its member stations. Previously, he served as vice president for Alumni Relations and Development at the University of Chicago where he led a $2 billion campaign and helped transform total fundraising progress from $160 million per year to over $500 million in 2009. He has also worked at Carnegie Mellon University, the Eastman School of Music, and the New England Conservatory of Music, and has been the associate director and acting director of choral music at Cornell University, where he conducted the Cornell Chorus and Cornell University Glee Club in performances throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Schiller has also served as music director of several other ensembles, including the Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus and the Voices of Cooperstown. He studied conducting and composition with Thomas Sokol, Karel Husa, and David Conte, among others. He has served on the boards of Chicago’s Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, where he was board chairman. Ron is currently a member of both the American Academy in Rome development committee and the Cornell University Council.”
The guy does get around! And I am sure he knows everyone who means anything in the rarefied world of ‘the best of every little thing.’ To me, this man exemplifies the decadence of the ruling class, one that will sell out his country for money.
Our MSM and NPR along with other liberal brain deads have joined the enemy!!! These fifth columnists wouldn’t rest until the enemy has taken over and then it will be their turn when heir necks will be on the chopping blocks of their new masters!!!
I think the author of this article and the commentators missed the most important point which is the vulnerability of our media to outside influence. Don’t think NPR is the only one willing to take Arab money. IMHO there are more than a few in the media and political world who are on the KSA payroll. If the Republicans really wanted to do something they could use Rep. King’s committee to start turning over the rocks as was done in the 40′s with the Communist subversion. But then the trail might lead to the Shrub.
Defund now! Let’s see if NPR can stand on it’s own as “leftist radio” without taxpayer support. I think most of us are looking forward to the death of National Propaganda Radio. Just like the corrupt unions, NPR cannot stand as a good use of public money because they are corrupt. They have become, over the years, filled with “second hander’s” who are expert at taking other peoples money for ever greater degrees of perverting the truth and personal greed.
Watched Hannity tonight and Juan Williams was on. I thought he was going to blow a gasket, he was so mad about the video in general and what that little twerp said about Mr. Williams specifically.
James O’keefe et al never releases the ‘good stuff’ until his second or third installment… Get a good seat folks… this is gonna be fun 2 weeks!
“That they all sat there through the worst kind of anti-Semitic bilge that would make even George Soros and Pat Buchanan blush is as predictable as it is sickening. ”
Unfortunately, I doubt either Soros or Buchanan would blush, but your hyperbole is necessary to get across the point here, Mr. Simon.
Whadyaknow (sic?) is sponsored by Public Radio International, not NPR, but it’s on my public radio station. And they’re all in it together!
Yes, it must be true, it is possible for NPR’s functional “mid-brain preparation” teletubbies to thrive together solely through the magic of nearly complete psychoderangement. And who would have ever anticipated that being high on poor Charlie Sheen would look so good by such a timely comparison.
Or that the brilliance of NPR’s firing of Juan Williams would be demonstrated so quickly, by having Juan’s “unprofessional” propensity for offering up his own personal thinking and experience “bigotry”, now even so insensitively concerning NPR itself, conveniently on display right there on Fox tv for all to behold./sarc.
I am afraid Carl Sesar is right. Roger, Emrita (sp) and Daniel in Brookline are wrong. True liberals, which I believe all of you are, can’t grasp how far the ‘new’ liberals have moved from liberalism – into tyrannical thought. Carl can.
Don’t fear the Muslim Brotherhood
Those stoking fears that the Islamic group will take power in Egypt don’t know much about it.
actually we need to read more about Muslim brotherhood in egypt and every where, this is their english website its called “ikhwanweb”, read every thing about them and about what they claim to be in Egypt after the egyptian revolution
http://ikhwanweb.com
The most telling thing is not what is on the video, frankly, that is all standard leftist vitriol. You could see all of these same viewpoints at any white linen brie and chardonnay lunch in Berkeley, Manhattan, San Francisco or Georgetown.
No, what is most telling is what is said (and not said) in the aftermath.
“We find SOME of the comments appalling and they do not reflect NPR”
To wit: “How dare he say that we would be better off without taxpayer money!”
If they truly found the comments appalling, why are they twisting themselves into a pretzel to insist that Schiller is NOT being fired? Even more telling, there is absolutely ZERO comment on Liley and her participation.
Secondly, they fail to cover, at all, the slur concerning the “Zionist influence” in newspapers.
Third, these attitudes mirror the precise attitudes of Soros-backed front organizations of all stripes. There isn’t a dust mite’s worth of difference. AND…much of the Democratic Party, as well as the current administration.
To suggest that this fails to reflect the sense and sensibilities of NPR top tier executives about conservatives, the Tea Party and Republicans…is laughable. The video merely catches the truth of a belief system that is rampant and pervasive. When Obama made his “bitter clingers” comment while munching brie and sipping chardonnay in SF, this is the same conversation…just at a different white linen setting.
NPR now has to simultaneously “back away” from the statements and sentiments they truly believe in…while not taking an ounce of meaningful action against the harboring of them and dissemination of them.
Because, you see…if the truly believed their faux, sanctimonious breastbeating…they would examine in depth ALL the people who harbor and disseminate these very same ignorant, deplorable slurs…and find a mirror reflecting back an ugly image of themselves and ALL of their closest friends. They have no intention of doing so. So, instead we get empty words, empty platitudes, empty rhetoric…to hide and obscure the fact that this video captured the soul of leftist America today.
I go to TEA party rallies, when I’m not working. The friends, (fellow travelers)I meet there, are all college graduates, elites? Indeed , we are all professionals with advanced degrees. I really don’t know if any one of us owns a gun.Just saying.lol
I’m really beginning to get angry at the Republican party. What in heavens name are they doing about anything? They just sit there on their asses and make public statements. It’s really time for a third party.
“which is now viewable in an unedited version”
Unlike the heavily edited, falsified video which was used against ACORN.
ACORN? You mean the other arm of the Democrat Party? They are on the public dole, too. Every time you turn around the government is throwing more money at these organizations. That needs to stop, also. Let Soros spend his own money on them, not the taxpayer.
Unlike the heavily edited, falsified video which was used against ACORN.
Yeah, that’s the official Party Line. Every leftist commenter is bound to chant that mendacious mantra whenever ACORN is mentioned.
I call bullshit. Prove it. We all saw the ACORN personnel give advice on how to conceal underage prostitution business for profit. Show where those words were inserted into their innocent little mouths.
Anyone who believes in individual responsibility is considered a “racist”….
Just a nitpick: Is the woman’s name Liley, Lilely, or Lily? It appears all these ways just on the first page.
DEFUND THE SCUM!
“We can’t expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism.”
Nikita Khrushchev
(1894-1971) Premier of the Soviet Union
NPR has been the tool of this endeavor as long as I can remember, they will do anything to keep giving us the small (ever enlarging) doses. We sow the seeds of our own destruction!
G. Hugh Bodell
I’m with “old guy” (#81)….we seriously need a third party. The Republican Party has been handed many gifts like the one from this clever young man, and has failed to use it to their advantage. This is not the way to win a war. Time to clean house. This next election should be about tossing out the old RINOS along with the libs. It’s time to save our country.
Now that he’s “resigned” from NPR and decided “not to work” at the Aspen Institute, Mr. Schiller can feel what the rest of us “racist, white, gun-toting” folks feel… because we have lost our jobs! Welcome to unemployment, Mr. Schiller. Maybe you’ll grow a brain–and a little empathy along with it. Speaking as a Tea Party member, I am not “uneducated” or “xenophobic,” I’m pissed off that the government is TAKING our hard-earned dollars and rewarding cronies in government jobs. The only guns I’m toting are information and indignation, but they are powerful weapons!
For the record 40% of NPR is funded by viewer donations, that’s “Viewer members like you and I”. Once upon a time I religiously donated to NPR personally and through my company. I haven’t done so in years.
Mostly because I rarely, very rarely, listen to their biased elitist leftist opinions and I really really dislike being talked down to, which is their stock in trade. Their hosts are self serving, whiny, arrogant elitist and frankly that goes double for most of the people who call in. The hosts don’t even make a token effort to hear an opposing few and if they do they mock and put the caller down, Diane Reems [sp] is very good at this, not that I’ve listened to her in the past 5 years.
Hell they can’t even do a nature program without whining.
With the possbile exception of ‘Click and Clack The Tappit Brothers’ I can’t think of any programs on NPR that do not have a leftist slant (albeit I would bet being from Boston that they are merely hiding in the closet leftists, make that hiding in the trunk leftists). Even my old favorite ‘The Newshour’ has lost most of its’ luster.
Shiller and Liley [sp] represent the Left in all its’ elements of elitist hate and condescenion in its’ most raw and rude form. But these are exactly the people who are running NPR, the MSM, the large Dailies and unfortunately our country and running it into the ground no less.
I don’t know how in the hell we got here from where we were 40 years ago.
But IF you are a viewer/listener and are funding these arrogant whiny A$$holes. Stop it and stop it now.
“I’m really beginning to get angry at the Republican party. What in heavens name are they doing about anything? They just sit there on their asses and make public statements. It’s really time for a third party.”
“I’m with “old guy” (#81)….we seriously need a third party”
NO NO NO!!!! If you remember, a third party (candidate) is what got us Bill Clinton. We do NOT need a third party, that would lead to a smaller percentage of the electorate deciding what the majority does and it what the loony left would LOVE to have happen. You may not like everything the Republican party does but do you like anything the Democratic party does? If you want another 40 years of Democrat controlled government then by all means start a third party.
tedders….you are right. I just lost my head for a moment and forgot the right strategy for victory. It’s the RINOS that need to go so we can take over the Republican Party without their whimpy interference.
It’s like any other business. Elected officials, and the parties that support them, are basically funded by tax money. That means, we are their employers.
And as such, if they aren’t productive, and are damaging the bottom line, we have the right to fire their mangy asses and replace them with someone who actually (1) knows what the hell they are doing and (2) obeys orders.
Both factors that eliminate RINOs, the Democrats’ leadership, and “progressives” in general on principle.
cheers

“It’s the RINOS that need to go”
Well said Susan!! I agree wit you completely, the Republican party needs to wake up and follow a true conservative path. Too many of the “old timers” think nothing has changed. Everything has changed!! The electorate has woken!
Term limits-term limits-term limits!!!
Well, NPR DID take huge money from the communist America hater George is Sore at Os. So it should not be a surprise that the anti-western hate mongers at NPR, who cant even tolerate one of there own(yes Juan Williams) who tells the truth about Islam. Jeez, youd even sell out for only 5 Million? Im sure BIN LADEN would GLADLY pay you so little for being the mouthpiece called the “America Al Jazeera”. Of cou7rse, in MY America, youd be on trial for treason AND spending your spare time at CLUB GITMO with your pals like Khalid Sheik Mohammead.
Thank you David Mamet> NPR……………….National Palestinian Radio.
Thomas Freidman, NYTs….are you listening?????????????????/
