For a guy who just won the Nobel Peace Prize, Barack Obama is sure suddenly playing rough with his enemies.

First he goes after his left flank, sending out minions to accuse liberal bloggers who criticized his administration on gay issues of being pajama-clad children or something; now he’s going after the right-wing devil-incarnate — Fox News – all in less than two days.

Wow, things must be pretty insecure Chez Obama. Wouldn’t it have been easier to fire Axelrod or Emanuel (pick one)? This strategy, seemingly ripped from the Clinton-Morris-triangulation playbook, actually appears weak in this instance. And if I were Roger Ailes, I’d be laughing up my sleeve. As Brit Hume just said on the network, Fox News may be the most powerful of the cable news outlets, but it has nowhere near the power of the presidency. Having the executive branch go after it, just puts Fox on the same plane as the president.

But that’s Media 101. Why did these supposedly smart guys not know that? Or am I missing something? Perhaps, I am, but I doubt it. Obama looks to be ‘runnin’ scared,’ as they used to say in the Village Voice. His healthcare program – or is it Max Baucus’ – is taking body blows. It could crash and burn or diminish to so little not even the slavish MSM will be able to find anything good to say about it. And then what’s left? Cap-and-trade? Given the way global warming currents have been cooling, I wouldn’t place any heavy bets on that – or any bets at all.

So I can see why the Obama people are slashing around, firing frantically in all directions. But at times like this especially, they should realize it’s necessary “to keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” I’m surprised those guys from Chicago, of all places, didn’t read The Godfather more closely.

Obama, come out to play-i-ay. (while clinking bottles together)
    O-ba-ma, come out to play-i-ay.
    O–ba–ma, come out to play-i-ay.

  2. 2. Dan Holway

How about “on the same plane”?

  3. 3. Minerva

The more Obama throws under the bus:

“Your enemies always get strong on what you leave behind.” — Vincent Corleone

  4. 4. Paul

That’s it. Lash out at every perceived slight like the spoiled children you are. When you have enough folks under the bus there won’t be anyone left to vote for you. Well, except the true believers. But that’s not enough to win elections. I’m all for this strategy.

  5. Lesbians and gays as a voting bloc provided Obama his margin of victory, yet somehow through his proxy he’s now saying his administration doesn’t need gays and lesbians and the hundreds of thousands of people who showed up at the National Equality March — including me — are an unimportant “Internet left fringe”?

Wow. Obama does not understand the lesbian and gay community one little bit. We are second-class citizens and have to be politically savvy not simply to fight for our future equality but also to conduct our lives in the present. He has poked an extremely politically savvy and VERY angry bear.

I was near the stage at the march when Lady GaGa told off Obama — CNN has been running a clip of her speech all day (and I posted the whole speech at my blog). I had no idea who she was, but she galvanized the entire audience of mostly 20-something marchers. When I turned and looked back at the crowd — which was only a little smaller than the 9/12 Tea Party march, which I also attended — I swear every single arm was raised and every hand was holding a camera phone as Lady GaGa spoke. No other speaker had such an electrifying effect on the crowd. She instantly won my heart with her intelligence, loyalty and passion. I do not think Obama knows how to bamboozle Lady GaGa, these savvy 20-somethings and the bloggers who dissed his HRC speech — and when charm and deception fail, Obama’s plan B is always to lash out. I don’t think it’s going to work as well this time as it has in the past.

Come on now Cynthis, you know they can keep this up as long as they want, what the lesbians and gays going to do, vote republican? Aint going to happen (in any #s that mater)

  7. 7. JAMESJUST

For some reason I have the feeling that the NPP award to Hussein Obama was arranged by Axelrod, like perhaps him and others around the White House in some way paid off the Nobel Prize committee to give the award to Obama. How else can one explain rewarding this minority quota president who is a political idiot with a prize for making things worse?

  8. 8. sydney jane

Pretty soon, we will be hearing that those who attended the gay/lesbian march were a bunch of racists. After all, it was a “mostly white” crowd, if you look at pictures of the march that were posted in the Post and other media outlets. And, we learned from the town hall protests that “mostly white” = racist, or at least the media makes that argument.

But, I’m not surprised that Obama is dissing the gays. He’s not going to risk his cred in the black community, where there is not a lot of support for gay rights.

    JAMESJUST #7
the award was given to Obama because he hates this country. So do the socialist euros. Like begets like and so on…

  10. 10. Terrye

Obama is acting more like Hugo Chavez every day.

  11. 11. Al Reasin

That evil W handled criticism and allowed interviews by those that were extremely hard and biased to the nth degree in my opinion on him. The O cannot handle anything, it seems. He has had it too easy his whole life and for the first time has no one above his pay grade to pass decisions on to as he had had in the past.

Pity our poor country; and poor it will be if he, Pelosi and Reid continue on the path they have laid out.

  12. 12. SDN

Vivictius, all they have to do is stay home. Ask McCain what happens when your base isn’t enthusiastic.

  13. 13. Donna V.

No, the gays as a bloc will not vote Republican. But it’s entirely possible they’ll stop donating to and voting for the Dems.

  14. 14. Rob

The fact that gays won’t support a gay-friendly Republican, even in the face of an anti-gay democrat, shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who’s seen any of the other identity-politics factions of the Left.

The only major government progress in gay rights in the past 15 years was the overturn by a conservative Supreme Court of the sodomy laws. The democrats, meanwhile, have given a lot of talk, but what did they deliver? DADT and DOMA. Not too different from the lip service that supporters of Israel get.

I’m not saying that the republican party is gay-friendly by any stretch of the imagination. But gays have always had friends in the republican party, which they ignore or attack. Meanwhile, there is a significant anti-gay faction in the democratic party, which they ignore or defend. It means that their issues will always be a political football– a source of controversy, activism and fund-raising, but few if any results. Well, one result: reliable paychecks and status for activists and fund-raisers.

  15. 15. bandit

Cynthia – you don’t understand the deal – Obama’s like a girl holding out on her boyfriend until she gets the ring. He could end DADT today and pressure Congress to repeal DOMA tomorrow – but then he wouldn’t have anything else to jerk you around with. If he gets reelected maybe he’ll give you some lovin’ but by then either he won’t have Congress or he won’t need you any more so why bother?

  16. 16. Willa

For a guy who just won the Nobel Peace Prize, Obama is lashing out in all directions, and curiously, his “enemies” are all Americans.

  17. 17. Willa

Bandit, that’s a good analogy of Obama w/ the gay community. An even better one is this: he’s seduced a lot of people into bed, but he’s only concerned about getting his.

  18. 18. Willa

To put it another way: Obama is a bad lover.

  19. 19. Alex Bensky

Despite receiving invective far, far beyond what anyone has leveled at Obama so far, I do not recall Bush responding this way to his critics. His view was generally that in an open democracy the leader has to accept this sort of thing.

All those contrasts between Obama and Bush do not necessarily come out in Obama’s favor, do they?

  20. 20. Peter M

“For a guy who just won the Nobel Peace Prize, Barack Obama is sure suddenly playing rough with his enemies.”

He only plays rough with his enemies, not his country’s enemies.

  21. 21. Banjo

I don’t think the gay community — 3 percent of the population — determines any election despite the self-intoxicating rhetoric heard in marches and rallies.

  22. 22. Lightnin' Hopkins

It’s just his “paranoid style”, I guess:

“Even partial success leaves him with the same feeling of powerlessness with which he began, and this in turn only strengthens his awareness of the vast and terrifying quality of the enemy he opposes.”

That enemy is a vast and terrifying cable news network, apparently – not Iran, Venezuela, Russia, etc.

  23. 23. biblio44

“Having the executive branch go after it, just puts Fox on the same plane as the president.”

That’s the argument Ike used for not going after McCarthy, whom Ike hated and who had attacked his friend and mentor, George Marshall. Ike’s pussy-footing got him nowhere with the Rad Right. The Birch Society (parent of the current GOP) still labeled him a commie.

    5. Braveheart: “Is now the time for Fox to question the “First Black President” descriptor? Obama is 50% Caucasian, 42.75% Arab and only 6.25% Negro, according to my favorite geneticist.”

Did your favorite geneticist work in Germany in the ’30s? He should have.

  24. 24. Roger L Simon

biblio44, I agree with you about Bravehart’s comment. That is not wanted here and I will remove.

Regarding the Birch Society being the parent of the current GOP, I assume you’re joking. The analogy between McCarthy and Fox News is equally absurd. One is is politician and the other a news organization. Cool down.

  25. 25. Maggie

You can make a community organizer the leader of the free world but you can’t take the fears of inadequacy and the politics of blame out of the community organizer.

  26. 26. IcePilot

I have long said that one of the things that conservatives can count on is that liberals will go over-the-top. But who knew that President Obama could be so out of touch? He seems to be unaware that in the United States of America:

    Rooster Cogburn wins.

    Ratso Rizzo loses.

    America likes winners.*

    * (when it’s earned)

  27. 27. Eowyn

While I’m no fan of God Jr., he’s still the president, and I’m getting more and more uneasy at his behavior, and that of his coterie. I might not agree with a single thing he’s doing, but whatever he does, he needs to do it with competence and clarity. The sense I get is he’s unraveling.

  28. 28. Delia

The day we can do away with ‘labels’ and ‘PC’ the better we will be.

There will always be gay people. ALWAYS. There will also be gender confused people and Bi-Sexual people and people who want to flip their middle fingers at conformity and marry more than one husband/wife or have a husband AND a wife or visa versa.

Politicizing sexuality is a perplexing conundrum rife with pretzel logic and prejudices that make the average Jack & Jill a bit queasy. Personally, I don’t need to know why Jill is with Jill, sex or not. I just don’t need to know. Maybe I’m more accepting than some folks though. I dunno.

Blacks are Liberals and very religious and believe being gay is wrong. 0bama can’t ignore this fact amongst his brethren.

Unfortunately, Politicians lie all of the time to get elected and people DO get hurt and disappointed.

    Sorry for rambling…

  29. I realized the day of the march that Obama would defy his base and repeal DOMA and DADT and get ENDA passed if any of those measures would help destroy capitalism. It struck me for the first time that destroying capitalism is the unifying theme of all of the legislation he has gotten enacted, or has proposed. But there’s really nothing in the “gay agenda” about destroying capitalism, so that is why Obama will do as little as he can get away with for gays. All of his on-the-record excuses for breaking his promises to gays are gaslighting and misdirects.

#29, Delia: Julian Bond spoke at the march to give the NAACP’s support to homosexual equality. I have the videos at my blog and his speech is well worth your time. The opposition of blacks to homosexual equality — after years of promising us that we were a Rainbow Coalition — has come from Black Liberation Theologists and ministers who see themselves as building a black nation. They want to conscript every possible person for producing babies for their ambitions. They have sold this to the black community as religion. But this religion requires people to turn on their own children and family members who are gay and I believe black people will have a change of heart about turning on their loved ones to serve the ambitions of demagogues.

(I tracked back to this post — did it not get through?)

  30. 30. Delia

    Cynthia [30],

It looks like your trackback didn’t go through, hon.

I agree with your assertions on many points. The BLT are anti-white anti-Jew anti-gay etc. Some of the most closed minds are Leftists.

I’m glad you post here as a White/Female/Lesbian/Conservative. I wish you would post more here because a voice like yours is important for the conservative side of America. In fact, I think it’s imperative that G/L conservatives sell conservatism too. There are some amazing black people who are conservatives and don’t buy the b.s. crap that the Left tries to force down their throats. I mention him from time to time but Kevin Jackson of ‘The Black Sphere’ is a wonderful example of a strong, black conservative.

    Keep the faith, sister.

Conservatism is alive and well and the face of conservatism is limitless.

    :)

Ahh…the PC tapdance is getting tedious. Some Braveheart poster makes a less-than-tasteful comment about Obama’s racial make-up and it not only get’s taken down, but also a personal rebuke by Mr. Simon himself. But the hateful bile flowing from Biblio44 keyboard on so many occasions in the past is always tolerated(?) Mmmm….Mmmmm…..Mmmmm.

I recently read that watermellon…..WATERMELLON….is not allowed at some colleges because of the tacit racial animus contained in that vile fruit. Wow.

  32. 32. stuart williamson

Interesting to note how the threads from Simon’s and Radosh’s postings on the same subject took off in totally different directions, and that Roger attracted no trolls while Ron;s swarmed with them.

  33. 33. Peter

Banjo, the gay community is small in population but they punch way above their weight in politics. It’s a question of money. Gay and lesbian folks are working, just like everyone else. Unlike everyone else, gay and lesbian folks are, by and large, childless. With no kids to buy shoes for, or other clothes they outgrow every three months or so, They have more disposable income. If they slam shut their checkbooks, the Donks are in trouble. Especially considering that teh gheys are overrepresented in some industries that the Donks really depend on.

  34. 34. Gary Ogletree

I suspect homophobia runs about equal in both liberal and conservative camps. Same with racism. But conservatives don’t tend to divide people up into a hundred competing interest groups. Dick Cheney is more gay friendly than Obama (and I’m not a great fan of Cheney). Obama bravely champions civil unions. I haven’t heard of much opposition to them. Society has progressed enough that I don’t think having gays in the military is such a big deal for the men and women who are actually serving. Women are now highly regarded because of their proven service. Obama is gutless on everything except transforming America into a National Socialist utopia, a disaster for people of all gender orientations.

  35. 35. biblio44

    25. Roger L Simon: “biblio44, … Regarding the Birch Society being the parent of the current GOP, I assume you’re joking.”

Not at all. Haven’t you been listening to the Party elders, Beck, Limbaugh and O’Reilly? And hey, Roger, you run a website where “Kenya-born” Obama is regularly pilloried as a Nazi/commie, is compared to Hitler/Stalin, is accused of treason, of turning the U.S. into a Soviet/fascist state, and you ask ME if I’m kidding about comparing today’s Right with the John Birch Society?

  36. 36. biblio44

PS… But you’re absolutely right, Roger, I should “cool down.” And who cares about politics anyway? The MLB playoffs are on tonight and I’ve got Mel Paper’s wonderful book, “Perfect: Don Larsen’s Miraculous World Series Game”, on my night table, along with the new Doctorow, Roth and Connelly!

  37. 37. Gary Ogletree

Bib: The last time we heard of the Birch Society was around ’74. Lincoln was a Republican, so was MLK. Neither was aware they were John Birchers. However we still have Robert Byrd, a KKK big shot in the US Senate. Guess which party?

  38. 38. qrstuv

Biblio, and you might want to take a look at the party affiliation of those in the 30s who were pushing eugenics.

In America, this was the Democratic party. Margaret Singer for one.
In Germany (to which you no doubt allude), this was the National Socialist party, which also favored government ownership of industry, regulated work week hours, and so on.

You can see a copy of their party platform as an appendix to the book Liberal Fascism.
