Ross Douthat has been checking the polls (his way – not paying too much attention to Rasmussen who seems to have the best track record these days for fear that their stats upset his apple cart) and come to the conclusion that McCain should be doing better since the Dems are so busy bashing each other.
Ho-hum… I guess he has to fill some time and so do I. But excuse me if I think he is spinning and lying to himself. He knows bloody well McCain is a formidable candidate and is trying to downgrade him in the most obvious fashion. In truth McCain is running practically dead even with Obama and slightly ahead of Clinton in the national polls in a year when the economy is in the toilet (supposedly) and the Republican president has an approval rating somewhere South of Mozambique. And, as he knows, and will likely be true in this case, Dems tend to do better in polling than Repubs than they do in actual votes. In fact, the major issue for the Democrats is now who has the best chance of beating McCain, not vice-versa. And look for that issue to heat up now that Hillary has fared pretty well in Pennsylvania.

“And look for that issue to heat up now that Hillary has fared pretty well in Pennsylvania.”
It simply will not make any difference. Enough of the black and far left of center vote will stay home on election Day if “Barry” Obama is “stabbed in the back by the Democratic Party establishment.” Hillary’s people are betting that John McCain will only be a one term president. They can therefore come back in 2012. It is also to Hillary’s benefit if Obama is beaten badly. She wants, in her heart of hearts, John McCain to be our next national leader. This will result in the Clinton people continuing to dominate the Democratic Party.
It would seem to me that since the American people are hearing day and day out that Republicans suck McCain’s numbers should be lower. These Democrats might be beating up on each other, but their main theme is the same: Dump the Republicans. Everything sucks.
And McCain is not spending any real money either. They are sucking all the oxygen right out of the room and yet here McCain is, running neck and neck.
Considering that McCain’s race is over and the spotlight is on the Democrats and also considering this was suppose to be a terrible year for the Republicans and the current president is rating in the lowest numbers in 70 years, I think McCain’s poll results are quite phenomenal.
From what I gather from non-political online communities, a lot of people are still completely disconnected from this election.
Once the “real” campaign starts and the airwaves are saturated with ads, a clearer picture will emerge–and one that can’t help but be unfavorable to Democrats.
Obama and Clinton are both incredibly weak candidates, as their MAD strategy is proving.
Hillary can’t tell the truth, and Obama won’t. Not much of a choice.
While the dems are busy w/each other the MSM continues to go after Mac.
