Bad week for the cruise business

March 23, 2006 - 8:51 am - by Roger L Simon

I stay away from cruises for two reasons: 1. Claustrophobia. 2. I have enough trouble staying on my diet as is. Now I have reasons 3. and 4.

    I feel your pain.
We went on a cruise in June and, even when I “only” gained 5 lbs, I was still trying to lose that weight by the time of the PJ Media meeting at the Rainbow Room in November!

On the positive side, by “we” I mean 18 family members on a family reunion. EXCELLENT idea for a family reunion. There was plenty to do for all ages and interests, nobody had to worry about entertaining that many people for a week, and the housekeeping, cooking and accomodations were taken care of.
    I highly recommend it.

(At the next reunion, I’ll make sure to spend an extra 1/2 hr day at the gym, though.)

  2. Another reason is not only will you experience weight gain but you will be surrounded by the morbidly obese on every deck. And they will soon be eating much more, soon be very drunk, and you cannot get away from them.

Yup, just like a family reunion!

Bus crashes can happen anywhere, but this one happens to be associated with a group of tourists from a cruise ship. And it turns out that the bus was unregistered.

I’ve sailed twice on the Star Princess, and would not hesitate to do so again. Both times the whole experience was excellent, as were the accomodations. The shore excursions available on cruises are rarely handled directly by the cruise lines, and the bus was probably being operated locally. The fire sounds like it was caused by a passenger, and I would consider it to be an isolated incident. Nothing here would deter me from going on another cruise (in fact, I’ve been looking into the possibility of doing so in the near future.)
