He’s Bad (?) and He’s Baaack!

April 28, 2005 - 5:12 pm - by Roger L Simon

The controversial Ahmed Chalabi has, according to the BBC, been named Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq – not to mention Acting Oil Minister. [I thought the State Department said he was an Iranian agent-ed. No, that was the CIA. Oh, then it must be true.]

But enough of this bickering. Here’s how the BEEB characterizes Chalabi:

A seasoned lobbyist in London and Washington who studied mathematics at the University of Chicago and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mr Chalabi has been described as controversial, charismatic, determined, crafty, cunning and ambitious.

In other words, more interesting than anyone currently working for the BBC.

    Very funny!

But so sad that it’s accurate…

Perfect. The crook that misled us into this mess is promoted. That’s the trifecta and then some.

  3. 3. JK Ribera

The commenter above should be commended for his subtle sense of irony.

  4. The John Bolton of Iraq. Go baby go.

  5. ìThe crook that misled us into this mess is promoted.î

This mess? What in hell are you talking about? Iraq has been liberated and Saddam Hussein is no longer a threat. Democracy has taken hold in other areas of the Middle East.

    “The John Bolton of Iraq.”

John Bolton will soon be our next UN ambassador. Things are getting worst for the status quo elites at the State Department and CIA. They are rapidly being pushed out to the fringes of our foreign policy establishments. The neo-Cons are, thankfully, taking over.

  6. The crook that misled us into this mess…

    Yawn.

The crook that led us into this so called mess was named Hussein as in Saddam.

So now Halliburton can run the superseekrit oil hose from Chalabi’s back yard out to the waiting tankers?

“Mr Chalabi has been described as controversial, charismatic, determined, crafty, cunning and ambitious.”

In other words, the Beeb are saying he’s Jewish …

  10. Roger,

Charles put a post apparently 5 minutes after yours? at 5:17pm wst http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15658_Iraq_Has_a_Government_Reuters_Isnt_Impressed#comments that says that noone was named to head 5 Ministries including Oil?

    UChicago Math degree?

Those don’t come in Wheaties boxes.

Supposedly he is a man of mystery and many “nephews”.

Let me inject a little reality into these posts.

Mr. Chalabi was given the job as Acting Minister of Oil for the Iraqi nation, as an interim measure while the Prime Minister and his highest deputies continue the search for a permanent appointment.

The 275 duly elected representatives of Iraq, through their elected leaders, have decided to trust Mr. Chalabi with the financial future of the whole nation. That tells us what THEY think about whether Chalabi is a stooge for the CIA, or a spy from Persia, or an embezzler from Jordan.

And somehow, I think they know him better than E. J. Dionne, John Kerry, Tom Oliphant, Maureen Doud, the idiots at NY Times, Newsweek and Time, LA Times, the WaPo, CS Monitor, Leher-McNeil, etc.
