Only a mile from Zabar’s…

… well maybe a scootch more… Alan Dershowitz tells it like it is at Columbia:

“This is the most unbalanced university that I have come across when it comes to all sides of the Middle East conflict being presented,” Mr. Dershowitz told hundreds of students and a smattering of Columbia faculty members.

“I have never seen a university with as much faculty silence,” he said.

At a campus already divided by a controversy that has flared for months – one that pits a handful of Jewish students against some professors in the Middle East and Asian Languages and Cultures department – the appearance of Mr. Dershowitz was the latest indication that the most serious crisis of President Lee Bollinger’s tenure is far from over.

MEANWHILE: Jonah G. is going after that other font of Middle East integrity, the factually-challenged Juan Cole. Scroll down from here.

As I mentioned in LGF comments, Dershowitz is rather consistent in his view of Islamic Terrorism and the fallacy of the left on Israel-Arab conflict. He’s not writing as a Jew, but as a clear thinking human being.

Certainly Columbia may be slightly worse than the average academic institution. I would think it is wrong, however, to classify the school as an anomoly. The ultra-liberal movement is firmly entrenhced in just about every place of higher learning in the United States today. Granted, there are exceptions but they are far and few between.

Here is an article written on liberal attitudes in our education system by a Ph.D. candidate from North Carolina. Some of the quotes will make your jaw drop…

    OJ:

The qoute from the Harvard prof is classic marxist dogma and the fact that he is targeting 5 year old children is right out of the Soviet handbook. He doesn’t pretend to be a neutral educator. He is on a religous crusade. If he wanted to start a private institution of marxist thought that would be one thing, but can you imagine if a Harvard teacher talked about getting a hold of 5 year olds to indoctrinate them into a radical religous faith. The cries of outrage would never stop. It is chilling to hear that someone who believes in our founding fathers, in our country, and ,shudder, God are crazy. This was a common tactic of the old Soviet Union to place any political dissenter into mental hospital/prisons and classify them as insane. His rhetoric is right out of the commintern handbook.

The brutality of the statement by the Harvard professor (of education!) is stunning: belief in God, love of country, love of parents = mental illness.

The only possible conclusion an outsider can come to is that Harvard is no longer a place of thought; it is an ideological dungeon.

Usually I wave to Professor Dershowitz from across a wide divide, but sometimes we sleep in the same bed.

  6. OJ…I wanted to link to the article you mentioned, but can’t find where he says he’s a PhD candidate or where he is…could you point me at it?

    thx

Holding conservative views within the academia arena, can unfortunately lead to discrimination and negative career impacts. As such, the author is not interested in divulging any personal information.

    I hope you understand…

  8. Yep. Thanks!
