The IRS scandal: bigger than you think

May 22nd, 2013 - 4:55 am

The IRS scandal: It’s bigger than a few wayward officials. And as Andy McCarthy points out, the remedy lies not in a “special counsel.” It lies rather in root-and-branch transformation. The Institution that the IRS has mutated does not need to be reformed. It needs to be dismantled. Andy  sums up the reality in two sentences:

[T]he problem is a perversely complex regulatory framework that gives the IRS — which should simply collect taxes based on an easily knowable formula — enormous discretionary power to discriminate and intimidate. That makes the IRS an un-American weapon, particularly when it is controlled by an Alinskyite will-to-power administration.

We have a chance now to do something about this exercise in un-American state tyranny.  Who knows if we’ll get another?

Speak for yourself Roger. Obama should be impeached because of this, then tried in criminal court, then sent to jail.

For one thing, the treasury employees' union needs to be decertified. Who thought it was a smart idea to let the IRS unionize? JFK?

We need to stop using tax policy to make social policy. It is too easy for politicians to take advantage of the tax system. For that reason alone we should abandon the tax code for a flat tax.

With the few exceptions of those agencies which do a fundamental and necessary job and which administrators have done their jobs with honour and integrity ALL bureacracies should be dismantled. And do we really need a Secret Police aka IRS?

Bureaucracy as the nursery for big government is a fundamental element in the blueprints of the designers of ever bigger government cloaked as democracy. WHY for example are the bureaucracies created for "War Work" during WW II still extant.

Developed and extended sincewith name changes for every more demands on the public purse and increasing intrusion into the lives and decisions of citizens. Why ditto for the Vietnam War? And what about Korea?

How have thse bureaucracies CHANGED detrimentally by their very existence the nature of the American nation AND citizen? How like Europe and Asia has America become since creation of these huge bureaucracies?. What new laws and restrictions of rights are directlly based on bureaucratic control of viirtually all aspects of civic life in today's America?

And just how much "democracy" is there in America with a large and every growing clientele to big government created with the laws to provide their jobs in the government? Jobs on the model of sometimes. often? life-long tenured - NO term limits - Congressmen and Senators? Who keep their jobs with all perks and privileges even after been discovered in criminal activity. And so on.

We do have term limits for the Executive. Why then none for Congressmen and Senators with their penchant for rules, regulations and laws that require vast bureacracies with their group alllegiances?

I wish Roger could get through just one post around here without saying, "Here's what Andy thinks. Isn't he grand?"

The IRS can do its non-partisan job quite effectively once again - all that needs to be done is to strike the fear of jail time into every IRS employee be they career employees or political appointees. For that to happen each and every Obama campaign operative with a hand in this affront to the American people needs to serve long jail sentences. I'll make it perfectly clear - ANYONE who took part in foisting this bias on the American people were Obama campaign operatives no matter whether they were career employees or political appointees.

The permanent government will hunker down and let the wave of reformist outrage pass over, as it always does, and then sooner or later, another event will distract the press or the public will tire of the scandal, and it will be back to business as usual.

The cowardly republicans are too stupid to know what to do, and when it is explained to them are afraid to try.

The democrats who have doubts merely keep silent and let the radicals carry the fight.

How is Obama is be impeached under US Law?

We don't actually KNOW he is impeachable as legally qualified per Constititution President. That pesky Article II that nobody in Congress/Senate or Judiciary considers important enough to examine as of any possible relevance with this BH Obama.

That Constitutional Article that details ONLY those of natural born citizenship are legally - operative word legally - qualified for the Office of President. We have never seen any proof, despite this having become an irritant with reasonable and informed citizens since Obama's and enablers actions on the national stage.

Citizens must TRUST their representatives are who and what they purport to be. AND that they respect and comply with the same laws as do and must ordinary, common, citizens in the nation in which 1. ALL citizens are equal before the law and 2. NO MAN is Above the LAW.

AND yet Obama's virtual first act on taking the Office was to SEAL documents from public, i.e. citizens', review. A strange, not to say bizarre manner to open his administration. A virtual glove in the face. A dare, a challenge. To whom, for what? AND WHY?

WHAT these documents are and WHY they are sealed we are left to guess.

That being the case it is reasonable to guess they are of material import for the integrity of and respect for the Laws of the USA. WHY should whatever they are have been sealed? What can they possibly contain that citizens may not be permitted to know?

The lack of curiosity about this guessing game , this mystery created by this man given the Highest Honour in the citizens' gift is incredible, amazing or is it awesome?

Whatever else it is bizarre.

Or discount it as of no consequence. When expedient.

So were Obama to be found derelict in dutry or having acted unlawfully according to the dotted i''s and crossed t's of legalese, what recourse is there for this Constitutional Republic, once upon a time long long ago known also as "A Country of Law - NB NOT lawyers - Not of Men" to do?

Why are you making this an either/or thing? Same question for the author too. In fact, getting rid of the IRS is likely to be predicated on establishing that this went right to the top and that it's happened too often to leave the IRS weapon lying around for the next President. Without that prerequisite established, the IRS is likely to survive.
