Hey Ho, Let’s Go

Been there, done that

“Hegel remarks somewhere that all great, world-historical facts and personages occur, as it were, twice. He has forgotten to add: the first time as tragedy, the second as farce.”

But the Ramones were first. From Wikipedia:

On July 20, 1999, Dee Dee, Johnny, Joey, Marky, and Tommy appeared together at the Virgin Megastore in New York City for an autograph signing. This was the last occasion on which the ex-members of the group appeared together before Joey’s death. Joey Ramone died of lymphoma on April 15, 2001, in New York. Joey’s last partially finished works were compiled as a posthumous solo album, Don’t Worry About Me. …

On the same day as Johnny’s death, the world’s first and only Ramones Museum opened its doors for the public. Located in Berlin, Germany, the Ramones Museum Berlin features more than 300 original memorabilia items from the Ramones, including a pair of stage-worn jeans from Johnny Ramone, a stage-worn glove from Joey Ramone, Marky Ramone’s sneakers and CJ Ramone’s stage-worn bass strap. The Ramones were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2007.

The difference between the Ramones and Obama is that the Ramones kicked ass, while Obama is an ass that needs to be kicked.

    Wretch,

Since I don’t know where else to send this… you should start an open thread on using the new site, where we can trade advice, tips, etc.

So far, after one post I’m wondering…

How does it know who I am? There’s no login. I could pretend to be anyone.

Is there no preview? What is the difference between “submit” and “post”?

I don’t like the looks of this site. Clunky. But I’ll live with it.

I do a good deal of my Belmont reading on a Windows Mobile phone, and this site STINKS in mobile format. Belmont the First was not great, but it was better. Why do so many blogs have formats so hostile to the mobile experience? Where is the stripped-of-graphics PDA version? Somebody at Pajamas get with the program.

On the upside, no more painful “captcha” to enter. And the response time seems a lot faster.

  3. I’m sorry to hear that it doesn’t come across well on a Mobile phone device. That’s an important point and maybe we can do something about it down the track.

  4. 5. Captain Ramen

What if you looked at the site’s RSS feed?

  5. Peterike,

The reason why it doesn’t format well on a mobile is because no special coding has been done. On one of my blogs I have a word press plugin to render blogs for mobile phones.

Either the tech guys here at PJ needs to find and install a plugin appropriate to their engine or they need to code it up if this is a custom from top to bottom system.

Heh. The first time I saw this (at Drudge), I would have sworn it said “Zero Possums” …and I, well, I, umm, did a double take: in stunned amazement, I was trying to figure out which one of O’s advisors decided it was a good idea to add a little Uncle Remus to his campaign (…didn’t find out until *today* it wasn’t Zero Possums.)

…actually – now that I think on it – I would have preferred Zero Possums.

  7. 8. Alexis

I rather think that “True Possum” is a fitting motto for the Obama campaign. After all, if America’s national symbol is the possum, America would be expected to play dead whenever it is threatened.

it wasn’t hegel, it was marx. in the eighteenth brumaire.

  9. You’re right about the quote being from Karl Marx, who was quoting Hegel.

The BHO seal reminds me of the low rent junk mail I sometimes get that tries to look like “official” mail from the US Treasury,IRS or some other Govt. agency. This seems like another one of BHO’s “Dukakis in the Tank” photo ops….

  11. 12. Doug

There is a statute against doing this, (seal reproduction) requiring someone in government to protest it, not anyone from the general public.
…but that’s moot now that he’s been properly laughed out about it.

If Barry wins, prepare to see a stupendous waste of taxpayer’s dollars on an ethanol scam.
Both he and Daschle are getting big bucks from “ethanol interests”

Contrary to Obama’s claims, the fact that he has revolutionized and democratized fundraising has not eliminated the dangers of big money in politics.

As of May 31, Obama had raised 33 percent of his money from contributions of $1,000 or more, according to a report by the Campaign Finance Institute that will be released Tuesday.

In the coming months, Obama will be raising big money as well as small money.

  12. 13. Doug

…and of course Soros pumps in millions to promote Barry through moveon an etc.

  13. 14. CPT. Charles

One other point Doug…527′s have ‘hidden’ donor lists and…can legally accept money from non-domestic [i.e.-foreign] donors.

    The possibilities, unfortunately, are endless.

  14. 15. Lilith

Doug: As of May 31, Obama had raised 33 percent of his money from contributions of $1,000 or more, according to a report by the Campaign Finance Institute that will be released Tuesday.

    I’m shocked! Shocked!

But then, McCain raised 62 percent of his money that way.

    Photochopped together.

My, my, the Obamessiah campaign is very confident of victory, isn’t it? Well, maybe “confident” isn’t the right term for it. Maybe we should say the campaign is “full of hubris” or “arrogant”. It’s good to feel inevitable and all that, but someone ought to remind the Democrats that the election is still a little over 4 months away. They can still blow it before then, not the least by underestimating the views of at least 50-52% of the electorate concerning the inevitability of the “Yes We Can!” Man.

While having always been more of a The Clash fan myself, I must say that the aesthetic ripoff is a.) unsurprising; and b.) sacrilege.

  18. 19. trangbang68

After November ,I will likely wanna be sedated.

Just three weeks ago McCain said offshore drilling wasn’t worth the potential harm to the environment, now he says it will cure $4 a gallon gas. About the only thing we’re sure about McCain is his record as a war hero, but the Swift Boating of John Kerry in 2004 opened the door to attacking McCain on that front too. Stand by for heavy rolls.

  20. 21. Peterike

“About the only thing we’re sure about McCain is his record as a war hero, but the Swift Boating of John Kerry in 2004 opened the door to attacking McCain on that front too.”

Yeah, because their histories in Vietnam are so gosh darned similar. Especially that part about saying the soldiers were vicious killers like Jen-jis Khan. Yup, McCain was all about that, wadn’t he?

I shouldn’t any longer, but I still get surprised at how delusional Leftists can be.

  21. 22. Alexis

Concerning the significance of rich contributors, I think it is useful to look at the total amount of contribution from the rich on one side against the total amount of contribution from the rich on the other. Among those who donated $1000 or more, Obama is ahead of McCain by a 4 to 3 ratio, with $91,435,211 raised by Obama and $67,964,523 raised by McCain.

Obama does have his army of small contributors, but he is clearly supported by rich people no less than McCain. And this does not include the influence of nonprofit organizations supported by rich donors; most of these “527 groups” are likely to be pro-Obama or at least anti-McCain.

I think the most interesting statistic from The Campaign Finance Institute is how Obama’s fundraising has been slowing down while McCain’s fundraising has been steadily improving. In fundraising terms, the story of McCain and Obama appears to be much like the story of The Tortoise and the Hare.

  22. 23. 3Case

One must remember that the proper translation of the words “Swift Boating of” is “telling the truth about”, though I can understand the reason the Left would want to generate confusion about the truth.

  23. 24. Charles

I’m seeing increased levels of confindence that the birth certificate that Obama has put out if forged
