Christopher Hitchens, 1949-2011

It’s not a surprise and we all saw it coming, but I’m terribly sad to hear that Christopher Hitchens has died.

He and I weren’t close, but I spent a week with him in Lebanon, I ate and drank at his table in his home in Washington, and he wrote a blurb for my first book. He was the greatest writer of our time who could talk off the top of his head better than most of his colleagues can write.

I miss him already, but here’s to a life well lived. Well done, Christopher.
