1. I put my money where my mouth is.

In my twenties in the U.S., I became intensely “pro-Israel.” I avidly followed its affairs, wrote letters to the editor, even got on the phone to solicit funds for it. I spoke of “the Israelis” as a race of ideal people, heroes; but that was guilt talking. I had to be honest with myself: what I was doing was not enough.

Now I’m here; I’m not just an observer or a fan from afar, but a player. Whatever happens here, for good or bad, happens to me. I walk the walk. I’m morally at peace with myself.

What a thrilling piece. It made me want to move there and I'm not Jewish.

When people ask me to compare living in the USA with living in Israel I explain that for me, living in the US was like black and white TV and living in Israel is color.

By the way the Jerusalem Light Festival begins this wednesday night. For an entire week the The Old City of Jerusalem ( that's the area that surounds The Temple Mount for those unfamiliar ) hosts an amazing variety of light installations that are done by artists from all over the world. It is a wonderful event.

You should come and enjoy!

I think I would enjoy living in Israel, but as a Reformed Presbyterian I might have a little trouble fitting in.

I am an Israeli -- and a Sergeant First Class in the IDF (Ret.) so I suppose you need to salute me if we meet, you lowly private (Israelis will get the joke) -- but, congratulations. If you are ever in the North of the country you can drop by.

This is an inspiring article that reflects the feeling of many of those who have come and made a new life in Israel.
I recognize in many of the perceptions much of my own feeling about living here.
The ability to see the blessings of life despite its many problems is a great gift and David Hornik amply displays this in this wonderful piece.

Kind words from my good friend Shalom, an outstanding writer and fervently loyal and devoted Israeli, who immigrated here from the U.S. even longer ago than I did.
