Obama’s Promise Revised: If He Likes Your Plan, You Can Keep It

After all, you don't need a law to let you keep what you have.

President Obama wants you to understand what he really meant when he said you could keep your health insurance plan under Obamacare. The Washington Post reports:

Fact-checkers and journalists have ruled that Obama wasn’t being truthful when he claimed that people who liked their insurance could keep it. Obama during a speech in Boston sought to cast the issue Wednesday as trying to weed out “bad apple insurers” who don’t provide enough coverage.

“One of the things health reform was designed to do was to help not only the uninsured but also the under-insured,” Obama said. “And there are a number of Americans, fewer than 5 percent of Americans, who’ve got cut-rate plans that don’t offer real financial protection in the event of a serious illness or an accident.

“Remember, before the Affordable Care Act, these bad apple insurers had free rein every single year to limit the care that you received or used minor pre-existing conditions to jack up your premiums or bill you into bankruptcy.”

In other words, if President Obama likes your plan, you can keep it. This slight revision to his previous claim should be embraced on account of it serving your best interests, the president claims. Before Obamacare, those pesky insurance companies were providing you with precisely what you contracted for and not a penny more. Our national savior can’t have that.

It would have been nice if the president had led with this message from the start. Certainly, those of us who understood Obamacare when it was proposed knew that liking our plan would not necessarily mean we could keep it. After all, that’s the whole point of passing a law, interfering in chosen behavior. You don’t need to pass a law to let people keep what they have. You just need to leave them alone.

Aren't/weren't insurance companies also subject to state regulation in the requirements of their policies?

Obama makes it seem like every individual policy is a bad apple, even if many provide adequate coverage.

Of course, no one really likes insurance companies, deservedly so, but to see the rationalizations offered when caught in a contradiction is laughable AND sad.

You may be an Obama supporter, but are you really willing to support others who will be given your tax money to provide them with health insurance? Your rates go up to support them and your annual deductible amount goes up, too. This isn’t for a single year, but will go on forever if obamacare is not repealed. Since the Democrats will not join the effort, join with us in voting Republican to get enough people in office who want to repeal the law. Vote your pocketbook, not some ideology you have accepted. Remember, it’s your money. This situation is hardly different from being assigned to support an illegal alien.

DOUBLETHINK

There are two Obamacares: One is what it is; the other is what it can be made to appear as in the Public Narrative. One must Double-Think to evaluate. If “Know Thine Enemy” is in one’s toolbox, then one constructs a New Left Progressive Liberal view of Obamacare.

Obamacare was passed, untouched by subhuman hands. The law preserved full advantage for the allies. The White House sliced and diced the law (legally?), rearranging the little parts to minimize its impact on the 2014 elections. The systems contractors are the right ones, with excellent past contract relations with other government entities.

The system roll-out is deeply troubled, an excellent result as it keeps sticker shock away from the 2014 elections. The best timing would be if the wave of public shock could meet Hilary, bearing a giant money poultice for 2016 relief.

It’s all good, though in reality it is a ghastly train wreck. It’s Numbers of Doom and its costs will probably duplicate the 1936 laws which caused the Crash and Depression of 1937, which was worse than that of 1929. Invention of the term “Recession” crowded out “Crash & Depression,” enabling the Crash of 1937 to be connected to Hoover’s causing the Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression.

Numbers of Doom:
--15 employees trigger Americans with Disabilities Act, in its new Cornucopia garb bestowed by the White House interpretation.
--30 hours is full-time work.
--50 employees triggers the requirement to furnish health care by the employer.

I have a terrible premonition about what it will take to finally rid the country of the ACA, deaths. Reportable deaths of people who lost their insurance or can't find a doctor or need care that isn't deemed "viable" by the bureaucrats in charge will mount and the numbers won't be able to be swept under the carpet. I hope I'm wrong and we can repeal this monster before my premonition becomes reality.

He was lying when he took his first breath on this planet. That was about when Jarrett came in with cloven hooves.

I wrote this three days elsewhere.
Everything since then keeps validating it.

I was listening to a report on this and reading some commentary with links to the current occupant making his promises and . . .

I had an epiphany about it.
And now I feel dirty.

You see, "from a certain point of view", namely an absolutely precise grammatical point of view . . . he didn't lie.
Really.
See, what he said (at least at one point) was:
"If you like your plan, you can keep your plan; Period. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor; Period."
Now look closely at those two statements.
Notice they are not linked clauses; instead they are two completely independent statements.
That means they must be read as two completely separate "promises".
And that means there is no absolute linking of them.
So yeah, if you like your plan you can keep your plan - but not your doctor.
Likewise if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor - but not your plan.
And of course its not HIS fault which one YOU choose.

Then look at what Beltway Jay is saying:
There was another declaration that new standards for "better" plans were being made.
So yeah, if you like your LOUSY plan you can keep your LOUSY plan - and pay a fine.
And oh yeah, your insurance company or employer can pay a fine for offering it.
But its not HIS fault if they cancel your CRIMINAL plan just because YOU want to break the law.
Its like outlawing slavery - YOU can still keep your slave you miserable scum, its not the government's fault they will put you in jail for doing it.

So there were no lies.
Its not HIS fault you thought he was lying.
Its YOUR fault for not listening to what was being said, you stupid, evil person who wants a lousy, inferior, healthcare plan that doesn't cover everything HIS committee says you need so you just leech off of others in the healthcare system, and besides you have to pay more to subsidize those few people over there because HE says it is the righteous thing to do you heathen bastitch.

No. There are a lot of Third World types out there who deserve it, and your property and paycheck, more than you do. Just ask the proponents of Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Look, I don't think Obama thought he was lying when he said that "you can keep your plan..."

Before you ban me for that remark, it's even worse than if he had outright lied. He's so dissociated from everything, he has no idea what he's talking about, well, almost always. He appoints people to key positions to head up whatever department of "Fundamental Transformation" and then forgets they exist. They're left to run amok to implement every socialist Utopian dream they ever concocted during their college years that their professors assured them were destined to be perfect and as it all comes crashing down, Obama reads about it in the NY Times and finds out the same way the rest of us do.

He has no idea what he's doing. In every sense of every word of the previous sentence. And I find that far more scary than a President that deliberately lies.

There are so many people in the wings behind him that have nothing but ill will toward so many of us that have not been and will never be held accountable, it scares the living daylights out of me.
