All the western feminists who keep talking about how they speak truth to power but who never talk about the real abuses against women that take place far, far away from their safe upscale enclaves and their safe upscale universities could take lessons in courage from Sushmita Banerjee.

The Indian woman wrote about escaping from the Taliban and her story was made into a Bollywood movie.  It is impossible that she didn’t know the potential for paying with her life for telling the truth. Now, the Telegraph reports:

Sushmita Banerjee, who only recently moved back to the country to be with her husband, was killed by Taliban gunmen outside her home, according to police in Paktika province.

Her body was riddled with more than 20 bullets and some of her hair had been ripped from her head, they said.

It is the latest in a string of attacks on prominent woman. The Taliban and other militant groups have kidnapped high-profile politicians, murdered female police officers and killed campaigners as they try to enforce their brutal form of Islam.

Western feminists need to speak up for women like Sushmita Banerjee instead of idolizing the barbarians who killed her, trying to rewrite the English language so the masculine form is banned, and engaging in ever-more-pointless attacks on males and masculinity.

If you want a future of equality for women, then the future must not belong to barbarians who kill women for telling the truth about militant Islam.

Those words should get carved into stone.

Speak out against real abuses happening half a world away (to them)? Ha. They don't see anything in it for them, so they'll just keep whining that they don't get enough money given to them by "old white men".

A brave woman. But, don't worry. The "feminists" here in America will continue their fight against real oppression: the lack of taxpayer funded birth control.

My one quibble is the phrase "militant Islam." No adjective is needed: it's just Islam. This misogyny is at the religion's core, part and parcel of the faith, just like Jew-hatred. Even if Islam were in a "pacific" phase, that would still be true.

You really think that the feminists will be the least bit moved by your case of calling attention to their hypocrisy? Of course they idolize those bedouin "freedom fighters" despite their human rights abuses & barbaric, backward treatment of women; such should earn them nothing but contempt & scorn but they don't like Christians, which is all these feminist boneheads care about.

Stop calling it "radical Islam".

There are no radicals. There are no moderates.

There is only Islam. Some are more faithful to it, and some are less faithful to it.

Those who are less faithful are gradually becoming more so.

You shame this woman's memory by refusing to see and speak the truth.

Indeed. "Muslim radicals want to kill all infidels; moderate Muslims want the radicals to kill the infidels."

And the feminists are completely silent.

Yes, there are the real deal reformers, MLK, Ayan Hirsi Ali, most lost to history because they WERE the real deal. Then you have those that (metaphor alert) hitch their wagons to the gravy train. You know who they are; the Jacksons, the concerned muslims who just want to heighten America's awareness about them, that, "why, shoot, REAL ISLAM would never do anything like that." Not that they'll ever quit bitchin' about blowback on them from 'this bomb' or 'that beheading' or a triumphalist mosque near the old Twin Towers.

The real reformers usually pay a high price. The pretenders use issues as a means to get power and their version of reform is always worse than the problem.

Not only the English language, but the English-language Bible as well; witness the dozens of references to "our fathers" that have been replaced with "our ancestors" in the 2011 NIV, as but one example of the attempt in the NIV to remove from our memory the fact that men have specific responsibilities in society -- assigned to them by God.

That was the problem I had w/ 'compassionate conservatism' the first time I heard it, which was the second incarnation of 'kinder, gentler America.' And yes, I voted for 41 once and 43 twice. Imperfect world, imperfect choices.
