Just months after selling Lucasfilm Ltd. to Disney, George Lucas is ready for another big change: marriage.
The Star Wars writer-director is engaged to longtime girlfriend and DreamWorks Animation chairman Mellody Hobson, a rep for Lucasfilm confirms to The Hollywood Reporter. It will be the first marriage for Hobson, 43, and the second for Lucas, 68.

In addition to her gig with DreamWorks, Hobson also heads Chicago-based investment management firm Ariel Investments Llc. and is chairman of Ariel Mutual Funds. Ariel reportedly is among the largest African-American-owned money management and mutual fund companies in the U.S.

Forgive me for sounding cynical, but over the past five years we’ve gotten acquainted with how black women from Chicago make it into the Big Time. Something tells me George Lucas is going to be making some amazingly profitable investments in windmills and such in the very near future.
Is it appropriate for Lucas to be marrying a woman young enough to be his daughter? As someone who some look up to as a role model, I think he sets a bad example.
Since Lucas had been one of the higher taxes crowd, but sold his company before Obama’s tax increases took effect, a divorce where she takes half would be poetic justice for that and “Phantom Menace” and especially the “corrected” versions of the original three.
