Better Than Deadwood? David Mamet Remaking Have Gun – Will Travel For CBS
via David Mamet To Develop ‘Have Gun – Will Travel’ For CBS — REPORT | Hollywood.com.
Do not adjust your television set: the Mamets are going to be all over it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS is aiming to have acclaimed writer/director David Mamet reboot the old Western Have Gun – Will Travel. The Pulitizer Prize-winner — whose television credits include The Unit and episodes of Hill Street Blues and The Shield — would helm the updated series about a gunslinger named Paladin, which originally ran from 1957 to 1963.
“Mamet will serve as writer and executive producer on the project, alongside non-writing EP Elliott Webb. If the pilot is ordered, Mamet also would direct,” THR reports. Hollywood.com has reached out to both CBS and Mamet’s reps for a statement, but has not immediately heard back.

– San Francisco??
OH, MY GAWD…Paladin is a metrosexual?
Yeah, San Francisco! Paladin’s base of operations was the Hotel Carlton in SF.
My only question is, will they get a gritty, Richard-Boonish dude to play him or some 20-something pretty boy? Knowing our luck, it’ll be one of the guys from “Big Time Rush.”
Nooooooo!!!!!!!
But, then…
*sigh*
Just, do it right, OK?
“Better than Deadwood”……that’s a pretty low bar. I couldn’t get through one entire episode. It was like watching inmates in a Russian labor camp who’d somehow managed to sneak in booze and guns.
As for ‘Have Gun, Will Travel”, not worthy of a remake. Imagination must be dying out at a faster pace than I reckoned.
Complete opposite of “not worthy” — no one around today is worthy of trying to remake it.
Boone wasn’t just the perfect Paladin — he was the perfect Smaug, too!
How about Jonney Yuma the rebel, the Rifelman,, Bronco Lane,Mavric,Roudy Yates, Gill Favor,Mushy,Wishbone,Peat, and Mat Dillon, Round up their friends, including the Lawman, the Virginian, Doc, Miss Kitty, Festus Hagen,Wyat Earp, and Virgil, his brother, all get on a Wagon train, across Death valley, head over to the Pondarosa to find and deal with Dirty Harry Reed. They could Hang Him High , I understand he is , Wanted Dead Or Alive. Did I miss anybody?
You missed Tonto, Lone Ranger.
Will it be sponsored by Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco Treat? Oh wait, I think that was Maverick…
Ain’t no city slicker gonna screw up a classic.
I’ll stand by my B/W tapes of Pallidan, Twilight Zone, Rawhide, same as the Second Amendment.
Remember Teddy Turner’s destruction of the great film noir classics by ham handed colorization.
The first Commandment…Don’t try to improve on perfection and media classics.
Next some crude dude will try to re-record Ed Murrow’s BBC London Blitz tapes.
