Here’s the report from ABC:

The Disney security in the video needed medical attention:

“Our security cast member was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for the injuries he sustained and then released. We appreciate the actions of the guests who came to his aid during this uncharacteristic incident,” said Suzi Brown, a spokeswoman for Disney.

To be honest, cursing tirade or not, I saw the guy on the ground being pepper sprayed, then heard people screaming at him and then watched him get pepper sprayed AGAIN while standing up away from the security guy. If this is the punishment for cursing at Disney, it seems a bit draconian. I’d cuss too, if I kept getting pepper sprayed and screamed at to “GET ON THE GROUND!” by non security people.

And for the record it’s at 1:38 or so where I take offense. The guy’s trying to get the spray out of his eyes and then the security guy sprays him again. I’d beat the crap out of security for that too, and I’m a peaceful guy.

    –safe
    anywhere.

  3. Just threaten to take him to “its a small world” and make sure he doesnt get off for two hours.

  4. The sign outside says “Happiest Place on Earth”. Not everyone gets that.

The guard provoked the attack. The guys was argumentative and instead of calming him down people laid hands upon him and escalated the confrontation. Then the moron of a security guard walks up and sprays the guy in the face with pepper spray. That started the physical attack.

At every point, Disney employees could have backed off and waited for real police to come and arrest the guy, but instead they played dominance games with a drunk, and each time he was provoked the violence escalated. The final attack on the guard happened when he sprayed the guy for standing up and disobeying him.

The goal in such an incident is to stop people from being hurt, including the drunk. These guys were instead playing dominance games and caused a much worse incident. Their goal appeared to be to establish their authority or rank in the pecking order rather than defuse the situation.

And make a note, pepper spraying an angry drunk who is bigger and stronger is a good way to get your lights punched out.

    I remember my first beer.

    – spray me, Bro! (Is there a “Hitler Reacts…” on this yet?)

Poor guy. I agree with Old Guy’s comments.

Who goes to Disneyland to get drunk? Everybody’s blaming the security guard, but I have little sympathy for the drunk.

“Everybody’s blaming the security guard, but I have little sympathy for the drunk.”

Me neither, but the Disney people handled it poorly. They did not have to turn it into a physical battle but they did. There was no need to use pepper spray. And note, it did not defuse the situation or keep people from getting hurt. It escalated the situation that had been verbal to physical assault and injury. The drunk’s reaction to being sprayed was to violently attack the sprayer. (Which shows how useful it really is.)

And let’s not get too holy here. Kids all hear profanities. It isn’t like their little heads will explode. It is not worth getting people hurt to stop a drunk from being obnoxious. That guy was much larger and stronger than those confronting him. A solid punch from him could injure someone.

They should have tried to calm him down, move people away, and wait for the police or security guys who are trained to deal with stuff like this.

The guy was being an a$$hole at… Disneyland! So of course he cannot be responsible for his actions, or deserving of the treatment he brought upon himself. Too bad he wasn’t tazed. Taze him Bro’! Please taze him…

    Excuse me.

The first five seconds of that video is all that needs to be seen in court. Two of the three people attempting to restrain (calm down) the drunk are Disney employees.

The drunk broke away from them and swung at the armed security guard, BEFORE he was pepper sprayed.

In the bad old days, he’d have been beaten to the ground with nightsticks, as he so obviously deserved.

Yep, I was not impressed by the screaming lady, the giggling boys or the spray happy fellow in some weird uniform either. OK, the guy was drunk and unpleasant but he wasn’t urinating or puking on people so I think the mob action was over the top. And I suppose the bar should have given the drunk guy a cab ride to his hotel.
