The Return of the Primitive

In his introduction to The Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution, the 1999 update of Ayn Rand’s early 1970s anthology originally titled The New Left, Peter Schwartz, the editor of the new edition, wrote:

Primitive, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, means: “Of or belonging to the first age, period or stage; pertaining to early times …” With respect to human development, primitivism is a pre-rational stage. It is a stage in which man lives in fearful awe of a universe he cannot understand. The primitive man does not grasp the law of causality. He does not comprehend the fact that the world is governed by natural laws and that nature can be ruled by any man who discovers those laws. To a primitive, there is only a mysterious supernatural. Sunshine, darkness, rainfall, drought, the clap of thunder, the hooting of a spotted owl— all are inexplicable, portentous, and sacrosanct to him. To this non-conceptual mentality, man is metaphysically subordinate to nature, which is never to be commanded, only meekly obeyed.

This is the state of mind to which the environmentalists want us to revert.

If primitive man regards the world as unknowable, how does he decide what to believe and how to act? Since such knowledge is not innate, where does primitive man turn for guidance? To his tribe. It is membership in a collective that infuses such a person with his sole sense of identity. The tribe’s edicts thus become his unquestioned absolutes, and the tribe’s welfare becomes his fundamental value.

This is the state of mind to which the multiculturalists want us to revert. They hold that the basic unit of existence is the tribe, which they define by the crudest, most primitive, most anti-conceptual criteria (such as skin color). They consequently reject the view that the achievements of Western— i.e., individualistic— civilization represent a way of life superior to that of savage tribalism.

Both environmentalism and multiculturalism wish to destroy the values of a rational, industrial age. Both are scions of the New Left, zealously carrying on its campaign of sacrificing progress to primitivism.

In addition to the shocking Islamic terrorist attack yesterday in London, a troika of pop culture-related stories making the rounds today reminds us that reprimitivization is well on its way.

First up,  “Movement to Normalize Pedophilia Finds Its Poster Girl,” Stacy McCain writes in the American Spectator:

In January, Rush Limbaugh warned that there was “an effort under way to normalize pedophilia,” and was ridiculed by liberals (including CNN’s Soledad O’Brien) for saying so. But now liberals have joined a crusade that, if successful, would effectively legalize sex with 14-year-olds in Florida.

The case involves Kaitlyn Ashley Hunt, an 18-year-old in Sebastian, Florida, who was arrested in February after admitting that she had a lesbian affair with a 14-year high-school freshman. (Click here to read the affidavit in Hunt’s arrest.) It is a felony in Florida to have sex with 14-year-olds. Hunt was expelled from Sebastian High School — where she and the younger girl had sex in a restroom stall — and charged with two counts of “felony lewd and lascivious battery on a child.” The charges could put Hunt in prison for up to 15 years. Prosecutors have offered Hunt a plea bargain that would spare her jail time, but her supporters have organized an online crusade to have her let off scot-free — in effect, nullifying Florida’s law, which sets the age of consent at 16.

Using the slogan “Stop the Hate, Free Kate” (the Twitter hashtag is #FreeKate) this social-media campaign has attracted the support of liberals including Chris Hayes of MSNBC, Daily Kos, Think Progress and the gay-rights group Equality Florida. Undoubtedly, part of the appeal of the case is that Hunt is a petite attractive green-eyed blonde. One critic wondered on Twitter how long activists have “been waiting for a properly photogenic poster child of the correct gender to come along?”

Portraying Hunt as the victim of prejudice, her supporters claim she was only prosecuted because she is homosexual and because the parents of the unnamed 14-year-old are “bigoted religious zealots,” as Hunt’s mother said in a poorly written Facebook post. The apparent public-relations strategy was described by Matthew Philbin of Newsbusters: “If you can play the gay card, you immediately trigger knee-jerk support from the liberal media and homosexual activists anxious to topple any and all rules regarding sex.”

Meanwhile, giant cable television conglomerate Viacom must be especially proud of MTV today, as we’ll discuss right after the page break.

In my pre-teen years there were some states that allowed MARRIAGE at the tender age of 14. We thought it was progress when the last holdout changed its laws. Now the sick side of our culture wants to legitimize homosexual predation. Even the Boy Scouts, RIP, have conceded to those who worship perversion. When I was a Scout we were taught how to survive in the wild, treat each other with respect, and do our civic duty as Americans. What will they be teaching now?

Society is not static, it is always on a tragectory. Western society has been on a trajectory toward the primitive and barbariac since the demise of the Victorian ideal and the rise of nihilism after WWI. It has been a long fall - we had a long way to fall. How is society not static? An example: girls of high school and college age in the sixties liked to pretend they were witches - it added to their mystique, I suppose. Their younger sisters, to prove themselves I suppose, took it more seriously until we now, fifty years later, we have an official Wiccan religion, with military chaplins and prison ministries. Will we continue on that trajectory to public fertility rites and blood sacrifices? Why not? There is nothing left to stand in the way.

"Robert Redford today accused the US of losing its way in the years since the second world war.”

He’s off a little bit on the date by about ten years, but otherwise he’s correct. After WW2 (and a little before) the elite of the US turned from freedom, liberty, morality, and the Constitution, to socialism.

'bigoted religious zealots,' as Hunt’s mother”

This sort of thing sounds so much better in the original German, which I won’t repeat here.

The problem in the movie I saw of Ayn Rand she had the biggest monster barbarian mind and heart as leader of her cult that came through when she removed her veil.
Saint Paul ,came to the barbarian with great power given to him from God which made the Greek believe he was god. there is nothing wrong with believing a human is god if they can live up to being god as Jesus did. Ayn Rand failed and so do you so Saint Paul directed the people of Athens to consider the unknown god
Acts 17:22-31
22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

Ask yourself while Jesus say the Pharesee travel across the world to make a convert but make the convert twice as ready for hell after they convert him. What was wrong with them or do you believe Jesus was wrong in saying this?

footnote
the Greek is what he is. only a relationship with True God can change his nature from what he was born to be. Give them genuine freedom as the True God changes their nature and that is what Pentecost speaking in tongues speaking in the tongues of angels when the power of God is poured down upon the people as is spoken in Joel and as happened in the book of Acts of the chosen 13
Only in this way can Babylon begin to see a change

in the eyes of what God sees ,you are in the same sin as the Greek, and Islam but you believe you are better off then the people in Islam that you have changed your nature without having to be close to the TRue God.
The fallen angels felt the same way but in time they could not help but hunger in lust for the daughters of men they once thought of as little children as God does

I disagree. Look at the New Age hippies. They dress, worship, and behave like primitives, but are not predatory. I do not have a problem with such people, because they are honest in their beliefs, and they do not seek to force me to live like them.

Redford, on the other hand, still lives like a rich man, while seeking that the rest of us live like primitives. If he wants to set the example and go live in a hut and wear rags, then I will give credence to his words. Of course, almost no one who actually sees such results will want to join his cause. He'd be seen as the loon he is.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." ~ George Orwell

"Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to. " ~ Col. Nathan R. Jessup

These quotes are the essence of why your New Age Hippes, the Amish, Quakers, and other pacifists can BE pacifists. That is the true hypocrisy of their views. They shelter under the wing of those that will protect them from others, defend their way of life whre they will not, and look down their noses at the men who get down in the mud and the blood and sacrifice so much so that they can enjoy their way of life.

" They dress, worship, and behave like primitives, but are not predatory."

Take away their garden of Eden and see how fast they get out of their sexy nightgown put on cloths for endure but end up shaking and shivering in the closet as everyone looks like predator. Becoming predator is big leap for them but is possible . How long can a person stand being deer in the headlights?
Man resisting power becoming predator is impossible but with God all things are possible.

What a neat and tidy expression of today's identity politically correct politics.

Principle is out the door and morality is assigned to a cascading row of identities that run the gamut through a morality pyramid where the historically and eternally wise, innocent gay, minority, female sits on top and the empty and sinful white, straight, male the bottom.

This is Daily Kos 101.

Even with all the blockbuster stories this week, the most significant remains the verdict against Philadelphia’s Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who was charged and found guilty of first degree murder in the grisly deaths of the three babies he killed after they were born prematurely during attempted late-term abortions (the evidence suggests there were certainly many more). This is a small but important push-back against the pagan impulse that has gripped our country and the world for the last generation, an impulse that has sadly existed throughout history and most recently re-imagined itself under the guise of “modernity”. Societies that engaged in pagan rituals, whether it was Mayans or Vikings or whomever, didn't see themselves as barbaric or primitive. They thought their societies were advanced and superior, just as we think ours is. And in many cases they thought that the brutal things they did to their own people were regrettable but necessary to keep their societies prosperous. I wonder if our society won't be viewed as just as backward 100 years from now.

American social history goes in cycles. 40 years ago there were efforts to end the statutory rape rules. We're back to the kinds of idiocies that dominated social science and criminology in the 60's and 70's, when our judicial system displayed a depraved indifference to the victims of crime and law-abiding society in general.
