Now is the time at Ed Driscoll.com when we juxtapose!

Barnes & Noble listing for Is It Just Me?, the recently released book by Whoopi Goldberg:

Have you noticed that things aren’ t as civil as they once were? Or that rudeness is no longer an exception but a lifestyle? Sure you have. All you need to do is set foot outside your door to see that bad manners are taking over everywhere. People are yakking on cell phones in restaurants, even at church. Folks in carpools wear enough cologne to make our eyes bleed. Complete strangers think it’ s OK to rub a pregnant lady’ s belly. Passengers abuse flight attendants, family outings to the ball park are ruined by rowdy drunks . . . a congressman heckled the President of the United States.Well, Whoopi Goldberg has noticed all this and more and asked herself, “ Is it just me?” Unleashing her trademark irreverence and humor, her new book of observations takes a funny and excruciatingly honest look at how a loss of civility is messing with the quality of life for all of us.

Jim Treacher, yesterday:  Bill O’Reilly drops by The View and ‘Shrieking harridans Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar walk off set.’

What’s the over/under on Whoopi’s book on civility hitting the remainder bins before Christmas?

  1. Weren’t there 2 popular cartoon characters, a few years back, 2 tiny rodents who, at the drop of a hat, whould stop whatever strange antics they were engaged in and start yapping “Whoopie, Whoopie, Joy, Joy, Whoopie, Whoopie, Joy, Joy, Whoopie Whoopie, JOY, JOY, JOY!!!”

    Hee, hee! ;-D

Maybe people are just beginning to abuse Whoopi back? Or perhaps she is documenting Joy Behar’s behavior on the view?

  3. 3. Pappy

Whoopi (and her generation, for that matter) reminds me of a kid who repeatedly abuses their dog, then wonders why Fluffy won’t play ‘fetch’ any more.

  4. 4. Buck O'Fama

Things are not as civil as they once were? Does she mean like when George W. Bush was president and the standard for civility was to characterize him as a chimp (or Hitler) and make movies and write stories fantasizing about him being assassinated? Anyone wonder if she’ll still be talking about civility the next time a Republican is elected president?

  5. The way I understand it is that we have to listen to them or we are “closed minded idiots” but if they listen to us or even allow us to speak then they are enabling racism and hatred.

    Is that about it?

  6. In order to believe that Whoopie Goldberg wrote a book do we first have to believe that she can read a book?
