Newsalert catches Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen comparing Tea Partiers to the KKK, along with namedropping Kristallnacht:

If Cohen’s name sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because Cohen himself has been on the receiving of such treatment. As Allahpundit noted in August of 2008, “Race-baiting ad of the day: Democrat compares opponent to Klansman:”
Of what vile sin could this Republican brute be guilty? Did he display a photo, perhaps, of Barack Obama talking to a white woman, along the same lines as the dozen examples to be found on Obama’s own website? Not exactly. Playing the role of the conservative is liberal Democrat Steve Cohen, who represents a majority minority district in Memphis, endorsed Obama before Super Tuesday, introduced the resolution formally apologizing for slavery that recently passed the House, and last year tried to join the Congressional Black Caucus before being rejected on account of insufficient pigmentation. Here’s what he gets for his effort.

And one month later in September of 2008, Cohen would practice his own brand of racial demagoguery, comparing a certain modern day former community organizer to Jesus, and a then-governor of Alaska to Pontius Pilate.
Which brings us to Cohen’s latest slur. As with small government Tea Partiers being absurdly compared with totalitarian, Leviathan-welfare state-embracing Nazis, it’s equally bizarre to compare them to Woodrow Wilson’s auxiliary league and booster club.
But will rhetoric such as Cohen’s latest effort continue to ramp up to even more surreal levels between now and November?

Aside from supporting Obama’s plans, what’s going to kill the swing seat Democrats in 2010 is the fact that the safe seat Dems — or possibly in Cohen’s case, the Dems in seats like Tennessee-9 where going to the left actually helps stave off primary challenges — aren’t going to stop saying incendiary things about the American public between now and November, and shows like those on MSNBC or on the Sirius/XM “America Left” channel aren’t going to stop asking Cohen questions that lead into those types of answers.
The red meat makes the hosts feel good and makes the pols feel good, because they know it’s not going to cost them their positions. But what it will do is kill the Democrats’ conventional wisdom that all this anger will die down over the next seven months, because they’re not disciplined enough to let it die down, and they’d rather be angry that be strategically cautious.
I knew Sammy Davis, Jr. converted to Judaism but I didn’t know Cohen could convert to African-American.
Ladies and gents, meet the Alan Grayson of Southern Detroit…, er, I mean Memphis.
If you don’t like being compared to the KKK, stop being so inviting of hate speech and denounce your followers (and organizers, and sympathetic politicians…) when they do this kind of thing.
Either own up or clean house. If your movement invites racists, supports racists, and tolerates racists, your movement is racist. Deal with it.
Capitalocracy – I agree totally!

Either own up or clean house. If your movement the democratic party invites racists, supports racists, and tolerates racists, your party is racist. Deal with it.
FIFY
When the democrats start cleaning their own house of this sort of behavior, then we’ll talk. Until then, STFU.
I say, let these nutters keep talking. They’re just making the people angrier and more determined to get rid of them in November.
“Capitalocracy” is attempting to engage in a favorite Progressive pasttime: rolling out the Weapons of Mass Distraction to get The Other to spend all their time defending things they are not responsible for … including “apologizing” for incidents that never happened (ie the n-word being “shouted” as the CBC cut through the TEA party attendees in DC).
Proggie, you should start to realize that many of the TEA party movement are done with that kind of game. And we are going to be alert to the Mobys and agent provocateurs you bring on 4/15.
“Either own up or clean house. If your movement invites racists, supports racists, and tolerates racists, your movement is racist. Deal with it.”
Deal with what? It doesn’t invite, support or tolerate racists and you know it. You are unable to support Obama’s policies so you fall back to this nonsense. You want to see that sort of movement you describe, take a look at the anti-bush rallies, run by ANSWER ( socialist supporters of the paradise known as North Korea) and the Palestinians and their anti-Semitic supporters. Those folks DOMINATED the protests during the Bush years. Nothing like the fringe that all movements attract. So own up or clean up your own house. Deal with it.
Cohen’s remarks are totally reprehensible. He is playing to his largely black constituency in Memphis with these remarks. Pelosi and Co. deliberately choose to walk through the protesters prior to the vote as if to say “Screw you, losers”. Pelosi carried that oversized gavel, which was a prop indicating that she was in charge despite the majority of Americans who opposed Obamacare. My hope in November is that the voters opt to stick that gavel up Ms. Pelosi’s nether regions and remove her from the Speakership. BTW, Cohen, in his first term, attempted to join the House Black Caucus as his district is predominately black.
I had problems reading this blogpost from my iphone browser, what is the reason?
