At Big Journalism, Bruce Carroll of Gay Patriot writes, “If Muslims Gay-Bash In San Francisco, Do They Make a Sound?”

I tend to associate the phrase “gay bashing” with angry rhetoric; these Muslims took things much further:

Three cousins from Hayward have been charged in San Francisco with a hate crime and assault for allegedly firing a BB rifle at the face of a man they believed was gay, an attack the men videotaped, authorities said Wednesday.

The three men, Shafiq Hashemi, 21, Sayed Bassam, 21, and Mohammad Habibzada, 24, the driver, were arrested.

According to [police spokesman Officer Samson] Chan, they allegedly admitted to the crime.

“The suspects did make a confession, basically stating that they came to San Francisco to target gay people,” he said.

Bruce adds, “Investigators believe the assailants chose the victim because he appeared to be gay. When the men were pulled over, police found a video camera that was used to film the shooting, investigators said.”

And naturally, because it doesn’t fit the narrative, the religion of the attackers was largely downplayed in local coverage.

Could it foreshadow worse incidents to come? As I wrote in 2008, in a post called “Riding The Culture War’s Tiger:”

What we accept as the current definition of the culture war may look like a blissfully calm warm-up phase a decade or so from now. Consider the implications of a news story such as this, particularly if, as seems likely, such stories become more and more commonplace.

[Ezra Levant] concurs with my take, and notes: “Even if they don’t believe in free speech or property rights for their opponents, liberals should protect the concepts for themselves.” Read the whole thing, as they say.

Kofi Annan, former secretary-general of the United Nations, famously said in early 2006, in the midst of the first assaults of the Great Islamic Cartoon Offensive:

The offensive caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad were first published in a European country which has recently acquired a significant Muslim population, and is not yet sure how to adjust to it.

I think it’s safe to say that as a percentage of the entire population, the Bay Area’s Muslim immigrants and converts aren’t yet the percentage of Denmark’s. But presuming such an influx of newcomers continues to grow in numbers, I wonder what the otherwise UN-worshiping residents of San Francisco would think of that quote, and how many lifestyle “adjustments” they’re prepared to make, in an effort to adapt themselves to their nascent immigrants’ worldview.
