At Real Clear Politics, Robert Tracinski and Tom Minchin write:
As the US Congress considers the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill, the Australian Senate is on the verge of rejecting its own version of cap-and-trade. The story of this legislation’s collapse offers advance notice for what might happen to similar legislation in the US—and to the whole global warming hysteria.
Since the Australian government first introduced its Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) legislation—the Australian version of cap-and-trade energy rationing—there has been a sharp shift in public opinion and political momentum against the global warming crusade. This is a story that offers hope to defenders of industrial civilization—and a warning to American environmentalists that the climate change they should be afraid of just might be a shift in the intellectual climate.
Speaking of which, this bill sounds encouraging: “Arizona Looks to Outlaw Global Warming Legislation.”

Cap and Trade will not pass. It is turning out that my prediction months ago was accurate: Americans would reject this nonsense once they realized the true costs. They
shrug their shoulders when the added costs total a few dollars more a month. A politician must run for their life, however, when the totals reach well over $300 each month, per family!
The presidency of Barack Obama is effectively over. He will be unable to get any of his major legislation passed. A lot of the citizenry may like him personally—but minimally on a gut level, they sense he is out of his depth. There is a decent chance that Obama will resign before December due to vague “medical problems.” He will increasingly become unglued. And why should this surprise anyone? Perhaps never before in our nation’s history has a man possessing such a thin resume ever made it into the White House. Obama is a man who has had a fairly easy life. He has no real idea what it is to struggle. It’s all been handed to him on a silver platter since his teen years.
When 4/5 of the media are acting as your ministry of information, all things become possible. Expect “new findings” on the severity of AGW (millions to die) every week until the bill or something like it passes. AGW is mainly a mechanism to raise taxes to sky high levels – that’s what it has been used for in Europe and so far they’ve followed the same playbook.
Somebody has to pay down the deficit and the people who will be protesting this July 4 know who that is.
