Everybody Must Get Stoned

June 22, 2009 - 2:35 pm - by Ed Driscoll

From the trailer at least, The Stoning of Soraya M looks pretty astonishing. Written by Cyrus Nowrasteh, who previously wrote The Path to 9/11, which quickly became the bete noir of Hillary Clinton, ABC and Disney, and co-starring James Caviezel, who achieved fame in this little seen low-budget film, this is the sort of subject that in a sane world, Hollywood would have been cranking out on a regular basis after, well, after 9/11.

Why haven’t they? We all know why, but perhaps this quote from leftwing critic Cole Smithey, found by Christian Toto, really helps to hit the nail on the head. Or as Christian writes, “Fasten your seat belts, folks. The moral relativism is about to get chest deep.” Smithey writes:

But there is something condescending and judgmental in the filmmaker’s subtext that seems to exonerate Western culture as somehow less complicit in the atrocious murders that it commits against innocent and guilty citizens alike. With American police tasing, beating, and shooting women, children, and men to death every week, the film could have been made with a less pedantic approach, as a more inclusive indictment of any form of capitol punishment and authority-endorsed violence.

As Christian adds, “Can’t. Make. This. Stuff. Up.”

Update: In his Washington Examiner column, Hugh Hewitt writes, “See ‘The Stoning of Soraya M’ and send the Mullahs a message.”

We sent them Obama. The ayatollahs got the message. What do the mullah’s and the Main Stream Media have in common? They both target teenage girls.
