SCOTUS RULES: OBAMA LIED!
June 28th, 2012 - 8:06 am
“Congress had the power to impose the exaction in Section 5000A [the Obamacare mandate] under the taxing power, and that Section 5000A need not be read to do more than impose a tax. This is sufficient to sustain it.”
And this, from ABC News, by way of Drudge:
OBAMA: “For us to say that you’ve got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase.”

So now Congress has the power to tax you for not buying something?
I want to see a Republican push a bill that requires all Americans to own and maintain a firearm or pay a tax. Not because I seriously believe such a law should exist, mind you. I’m all about individual liberty. I just want to see the look on the faces of some of these leftists when they realize what a Pandora’s box they’ve opened.
Won’t this give Romney some more momentum for November? After all, every poll I’ve seen on Obamacare says that most Americans DON’T want it.
The court ruled Obamacare unconstitutional if it’s not a tax. Obama says it’s not a tax. Therefore, Obama says it’s unconstitutional. What am I missing?
If I may take a stab at translating the Legaleeze into simple English for the benefit of our Congress Members. It goes sumpthin’ like this:
Dear Congress
While this goat gagging bilge may be a giant steaming pile of Doo-Doo.
It ain’t UNCONSTITUTIONAL. If you want something done about it then get off of your overpaid fundiments and do your jobs. Don’t depend on someone else to do it for you!
luv ya
SCOTUS
zeprin — that’s more or less my understanding of it, too. Congress should do its damn job. I actually agree with the decision: the law IS constititonal. It just sucks.
Yeah:
But aren’t we more or less screwed? What are the chances of getting sixty senate votes to overcome a filibuster? I mean maybe by 2014, if we can keep the American people focused long enough to recognize that the economic death spiral has finally come center stage, we could get big enough majorities in the House and Senate to start undoing some of the damage. But I never underestimate the laziness of the common man. They’re just as likely to vote for bread and circuses next time around.
Kind of depressing.

John
