Pay attention to this story, because it might prove more important than it seems at first:
While on the HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Jay Leno said Hillary Clinton seems “very slow” and appears to be older than Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren despite their 18-month age difference.
“I don’t see the fire,” he said of the likely Democratic presidential contender in a clip of the show on The Daily Caller. “Her and Elizabeth Warren are almost the same age and I see Elizabeth Warren come out throwing punches boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,” he said with his fist up jabbing the air.
“And I like her, but she seems sort of, she seems very slow and very … I don’t see that fire that I used to see that I see in Elizabeth Warren,” he said.
I used to joke that Leno, after he took over the Tonight Show, was about as exciting as Miracle Whip on Wonder Bread. But really, that was his great talent — the ability to immediately grasp and humorously relate what Middle America was seeing or feeling about the issue of the day. So if Leno says that Clinton seems listless, you can bet that’s something nearly everybody has already noticed, even if they haven’t yet articulated it, or perhaps just not yet taken conscious note of it.
But Leno, that unexciting master of Middle America, having said it out loud gives the entire country permission to talk about the fact that the would-be Empress has no clothes doesn’t seem up to the job.
