Ann Coulter Launches Into Anti-Gingrich Tirade Over 'Fantasy Land' Comments

On Monday morning, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said President Donald Trump should not listen to Ann Coulter on the border wall battle because Coulter is an author who has never run for public office. Coulter shot back with a fiery tweet.

Trump “should not pay any attention to Ann Coulter,” Gingrich said on “Fox & Friends.”

“Ann Coulter has never run for office. She doesn’t know anything about how you put a majority together,” Gingrich, who negotiated with President Bill Clinton as speaker of the House in the 1990s, added. “She’s off here in some fantasy land where she gets to be noisy which helps her sell books.”

When Trump announced his deal with Democrats to end the shutdown last Friday, Coulter slammed the president as “the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States.”

Coulter suggested that Trump will almost certainly lose ground with his base over this cave. The former House speaker disagreed.

“The fact is the president’s base is with the president. And the president’s base, if he goes to them says, ‘I got this done for the wall, I got this done to protect America, I’m doing these good things you believe in,’ the base is going to say, ‘fine,'” Gingrich said.

He further noted that “80 percent of the country believes [Trump] ought to find legal ways for people who came here as children to become legal in a way — not necessarily a path to citizenship, but certainly a path to a job. Sometimes you got to say to your base, ‘Hey if you’re really my base, you gotta stick with me.'”

Coulter went off on Gingrich after these comments.

“Newt Gingrich claims I’m in ‘fantasyland’ for criticizing the president for breaking his central campaign promise,” she tweeted. She added sarcastically, “It has now come to my attention that Trump HAS built the full border wall & it’s working BEAUTIFULLY. That is why Trump is sailing to re-election!”

She then launched into a stream of invective.

“Newt’s right — I’m just selling books. But at least I don’t have to kiss Trump’s a** to do so,” she added. Ouch!

“RIDDLE OF THE DAY: How do you break Newt Gingrich’s nose? (ANSWER: Kick Donald Trump in the a**.)”

She described Gingrich as having chosen the “Kick the Emperor’s A** Camp.”

Coulter had every right to be angry at Gingrich, but this response seems rather over-the-top. Then again, this kind of invective has often been her style — and Trump’s. Her fans are only more likely to support her in this latest war of words. Trump will have to re-earn her support, and she does speak for many in his base.
