CNN Goes to Court to Get the FBI's Comey Memos

In federal court today, CNN has filed a lawsuit seeking to force the FBI to turn over former FBI Director James Comey's memos documenting his conversations with President Donald Trump, says ... CNN:

Despite high public interest in the content of the memos, Comey's testimony that the records are not classified and a ruling from the Justice Department that the FBI should expedite CNN's FOIA request for the memos, the FBI has not provided either the documents or a reason to withhold them, according to the lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

That constitutes a violation of the federal Freedom of Information Act, the lawsuit alleges. CNN asked the court to require the agency release the documents "unredacted, and without further delay."

CNN wants to see the memos because Comey spoke about them rather openly during his congressional testimony:

In riveting testimony last week, Comey detailed how prior to the firing, Trump invited and corralled him into a series of private meetings. He said the conversations were uncomfortable enough that he documented them in a series of nine memos initially distributed to only a small circle of FBI colleagues.

This is undoubtedly exactly what Comey and his Democratic friends wanted to accomplish. After all, why else would he have let one of his other friends leak the content of one specific memo? It's what he wanted and CNN is now trying to make it happen.

The reason CNN is so determined to uncover and eventually publish these memos isn't that the news channel takes its journalistic responsibilities seriously all of a sudden -- after eight years of doing exactly nothing other than parroting the Obama administration's official talking points -- but because they want to take Donald Trump down by any means necessary.

We don't even know whether what Comey wrote in his notes is the truth, but of course, CNN automatically assumes it is. Were they in the room with Comey and Trump? Did they hear the two men talk? Nope. None of it. They just assume that Comey a) wrote down negative info about Trump and b) that his memos were truthful representations of the conversations he had with the president. Why? Because Comey has proved to be such an apolitical truth-teller? Of course not! Purely and only because they suspect his memos will hurt Trump. That's all.

And so, once again, it has been made crystal clear why conservatives have no faith in the mainstream media and why many of them cynically call CNN "the Clinton News Network." CNN is nothing more or less than the Democrats' media arm.
