On “The View” Wednesday, the notoriously fact-challenged women on the panel proudly touted their show’s reputation for being a trusted news source during a discussion about “fake news.”
The women compared their high fact-checking standards to what they say are the low standards of the conservative media website Breitbart.
Newsbusters noticed that Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Whoopi Goldberg were very impressed with their own credibility.
JOY BEHAR: We give opinions but when we give facts it’s checked with ABC News
Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin agreed, to audience applause:
SUNNY HOSTIN: Absolutely. [claps] Absolutely.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Or — you know, we don’t just go to one place. We don’t just go to one place. We actually have — we are held to a different standard. We have to look at many different places before we can say that’s what’s happening.
HOSTIN: Everything is sourced. Everything is sourced.
I don’t watch what PJ Media’s Christian Toto calls “the dumbest show on television,” but I did recently catch Whoopi and Co. on YouTube talking smack about Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, and Juanita Broaddrick, three women (out of many) who claim to have been sexually harassed and/or assaulted by former President Clinton.
I’m interested to know how many layers of fact-checking they went through in order to be able to confidently proclaim on their show last October that these women (who had never willingly slept with Bill Clinton) were “tramps” who had slept with Bill Clinton.
The women of “The View” were in high dudgeon because Donald Trump had showcased the four “tramps” at a press conference before the town hall debate in St. Louis with Hillary Clinton.
“May I just point this out?” an agitated Whoopi Goldberg rasped. “Several of those women slept with him knowing he was a married man.” Whoopi didn’t bother to specify which of the women had willingly slept with Bill and none of the other women on “The View” spoke up to correct her.
If “everything is sourced,” who was their source for that? Because it isn’t true.
The truth is, none of the women at the press conference had ever had an affair with Bill Clinton. Juanita Broaddrick, in fact, claims she was brutally raped by Clinton in 1978 when he was running for governor of Arkansas. Even now, at age 73, she says the pain never goes away.
But according to Whoopi Goldberg, Hillary Clinton was “the victim” of their “dirty” deeds.
She said that Clinton’s accusers were actually “lucky” because if somebody had slept with their [the women of “The View”] men, “it would not be as polite!”
“We would not be cute and like, ‘oh we’re so sorry!’ Nah b*tch!” Whoopi bellowed to laughter and applause. “Let’s start with the fact that she [Hillary] was the victim in this! She was the person to whom dirty was done! And Donald redid the dirty by reintroducing the victim [Hillary] — he reintroduced and redid it!”
Joy Behar has since apologized for calling the women tramps, but to my knowledge none of them have corrected the false smear that the three women had slept with Bill Clinton.
You can watch Newsbusters’ compilation video of the women of “The View” repeatedly getting their facts wrong here.
