Support for 'Assault Weapon' Ban Hits All-Time Low

The public support for an “assault weapon” ban has reached an all-time low, according to the latest Gallup research released earlier this month.

“Assault weapons” is a made-up word the left uses to frighten the public into thinking that military-esque automatic machine guns and rocket launchers are littering the streets of America.

The latest numbers from Gallup show the public isn’t buying it.

The fewest Americans in 20 years favor making it illegal to manufacture, sell or possess semi-automatic guns known as assault rifles. Thirty-six percent now want an assault weapons ban, down from 44% in 2012 and 57% when Gallup first asked the question in 1996.

And support for such a ban has dropped across party lines over the last the 20 years. In 1996, 63 percent of Democrats favored a ban and in 2016 that number is down to 50 percent. The drop among Republicans is even more drastic, with 50 percent supporting a ban in 1996 but only 25 percent supporting a ban in 2016. Independents are also less interested in a ban with a 10 percent drop in support over the last 20 years.

Nevertheless, Bloomberg and his anti-gun crew are spending big money and pushing anti-Second Amendment initiatives across the country. In fact, the latest Gallup research shows that Americans are less interested in tougher gun laws in general.

The decline in support for an assault weapons ban mirrors the trend for those saying there should be a law banning the possession of handguns, except by the police or other authorized people. Currently, 23% of Americans favor such a ban, down from 26% in 2011 and 36% in 2004.

While more than three-quarters of Americans wanted gun laws to “be more strict” in 1990, that number has dropped to 55 percent in 2016.

This is heartening news. The anti-Second Amendment mafia has really been ratcheting up their hysteria and dropping huge money in recent years and yet support for gun control continues to drop.
