There’s this misguided belief that Americans, as a whole, prefer a straight-talking, no-BS kind of person. Watch any political movie about a maverick outsider, and most of the time, that’s just what they are. The reality is, however, people don’t want that. Sure, some say they do, but they don’t.
Take, for example, a weatherman who generally didn’t talk politics on his Facebook page breaking his rule:

Weatherman Bob Goosmann denied there were any racial undertones to the incendiary Facebook comment that led him to resign as chief meteorologist at KRLD (1080 AM).
The Facebook message, posted Wednesday, said, “As many of you have probably noticed, I’ve stayed away from politics on FB. The DNC parading the mothers of slain thugs around on their stage has me furious.”
The comment came after black women whose children have died while in custody, in police shootings or other gun violence took the stage at the Democratic National Convention.
Goosmann later posted a comment on dallasnews.com that said he didn’t mean to denigrate the mothers or the lives lost.
“I was angry that the DNC used these mothers to garner votes, and that was it,” he wrote.
However, ultimately, he resigned because of a firestorm that erupted when he called a bunch of thugs “thugs.”
You see, those “black women whose children have died while in custody, in police shootings or other gun violence” are mothers of people who, after the facts were in, were often shown to have been violent aggressors in the attacks that killed their precious babies.
Some have tried to make the comments out to be racist. Honestly? That’s the real racism.
The word “thug” has never meant “black.” There are “thugs” of every race and creed. The idea that somehow the word applies only to black men would imply that only black men can be thugs.
Tell me where the racism is, then?
That’s exactly what Goosman figured when he posted his comment:
“I used the word thugs in my post, but I thought a thug was just a violent person. The definition of thug does not mention any race,” he wrote. “I will say I talked with an African American acquaintance and he told me that he feels like when he hears the word, it is in reference to an African American individual. I had NO IDEA.”
Goosmann said what millions of Americans were thinking, and as a result, he was hounded out of a job. Of course, he also has some Stockholm Syndrome kicking as well:
The Facebook comment has since disappeared, and Goosmann’s Twitter account has also been deleted.
In his online comment, Goosmann noted he resigned but would have been fired, “and rightly so.”
No, it would not have been “rightly so.”
These women raised sons who attacked other people and got shot for it, or who died because of accidents. In every case so far, they were people who appear to be guilty of crimes.
There’s nothing right about being fired for admitting reality.
