Obama Approves Storm Aid Right Before Swing-State Visit

President Obama signed a disaster declaration for Ohio a day before visiting the swing state today for a campaign stop in Columbus.

The president ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms and straight-line winds during the period of June 29 to July 2, 2012.

Obama approved federal funds for disaster relief for Maryland, hit during the same storm period, back on Aug. 2. The District of Columbia received the disaster declaration — for, again, the same storms — on Aug. 1, and Virginia was declared a disaster area on July 27.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich requested a disaster aid assessment on July 24. Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley requested a disaster declaration on July 27.

Obama is delivering remarks shortly at a campaign event at Capital University in Columbus.
