Holder Contempt Vote on Next Week's House Schedule

The contempt of Congress resolution against Attorney General Eric Holder is on House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s schedule for next week.

In the Leader’s daily schedule just released, Cantor gives a bit of flexibility on the vote: listed for Wednesday “and the balance of the week” are the transportation bill, the farm bill, further legislation relating to the reduction of student-loan interest rates, and an as-yet un-numbered “resolution recommending that the House of Representatives find Eric H. Holder, Jr., Attorney General, U.S. Department of Justice, in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with a subpoena duly issued by the committee on Oversight and Government Reform,” sponsored by Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).

The House begins legislative business at noon on Wednesday and Thursday, and last votes are expected no later than 3 p.m. on Friday.

Next week’s busy legislative schedule is on top of the Supreme Court rulings expected on the ObamaCare mandate and on Arizona’s SB 1070 immigration law.

The following week, Congress is out for the Fourth of July recess.
