There are surprises, and then there are surprises. Lucy Hellein, of Fort Mitchell, Ala., got a 9 lb. 1 oz. surprise of her very own—little Dexter Tyler. Back in August, the mother of two had an IUD inserted to prevent further pregnancies. She used a Mirena IUD, which is said to be over 99% effective. But in December, she learned that she was 18 weeks pregnant. An even bigger surprise is what the surgeon found behind her placenta during her C-section: The Mirena! She shared a picture on Instagram of her newborn baby clutching the very device that failed to prevent the pregnancy. Her post read: “Dexter Tyler  27 April 2017 @ 0840  9lbs 1oz  21.5in  Mirena found behind placenta.”

Lucy spoke to Metro.co.uk about the events leading to her bundle of joy:

My Mirena was nowhere to be found on ultrasound so my OB assumed that it had fallen out, but I wasn’t convinced. Dexter was definitely meant to be. His original due date was May 4th and even the doctor said ‘the force was strong with this one. Although he wasn’t planned, my family and I feel incredibly blessed.

For those wondering, no I did not push him out, he was a scheduled c-section. My daughter was an emergency c-section, so I had this one scheduled primarily because I didn’t want to risk the possibility of going through another emergency c-section.
