Easter is this weekend. As I shopped for this year’s baskets, I remembered the quandary I was in for our son’s first Easter. He was just four months old and too little to try chocolate. When I think of Easter baskets, there is one thing that I have in mind: candy! But he was too little to eat any, so I had to get creative. If you are struggling with a sweets-free basket to fill, help is here!
1. Books

They do not have to be strictly about Easter to go in an Easter basket; Easter-themed books will be out of season the day after they are received. Some classics all children need in their libraries are: Goodnight Moon, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Guess How Much I Love You, and any book by Sandra Boynton. These books are basic must-haves as their story lines are enjoyable for both kids and the parents who are bound to read the same books over and over again.
2. Bubbles

Bubbles can captivate a baby’s tiny eyes and mind even before he can use a bubble wand. They’re very affordable and can fill up a big Easter basket quite nicely.
3. Bathtub Toys

No matter how old you are, you still have to take a bath. A bath toy that is a bit above your little one’s current developmental level (but still has fun textures) is a gift that can last for years to come. Foam alphabet letters, squirt toys, and books you can read in the bathtub are easy to hold and can make bath time exciting, even before kids can sit up on their own.
4. CDs
Music is fun at any age. Lullabies, soundtracks, sing-alongs, and anything from Rockabye Baby are some of my personal favorites. Rockabye takes pop songs and puts them to a lullabies. As they describe, “Making rock music baby-friendly and kids music adult friendly.”
5. Toy Store Gift Card
If you are filling a basket for someone who is not your child, this treat allows mom and dad to pick a special toy. Since parents are most familiar with the libraries, toy inventories, and personal interests of their youngsters, this gift is sure to be well-received and fun to use.
6. Toys Appropriate for Birth to 6 Months Old

The classic Oball was my son’s first favorite toy and he still plays with it two years later. Teething toys, taggie blankets, and toys that can link together are always a hit for parents and babies.
7. Finger Puppets

Finger puppets are a fantastic way for parents to get their creative juices flowing. Bringing a smile to their child’s face is something every parent works hard to accomplish, and finger puppets are a great way to do this for the kiddos.
8. Onesies

Babies can always use more onesies. Cute sayings you know mom and dad will appreciate may even lead to a cute framed photo for your walls. Even basic white onesies are great for layering and easy to bleach when stains happen.
9. Socks

We are getting dangerously close to the stand-by socks and underwear filler gifts, but baby socks are different. Socks usually turn into a necessary wardrobe staple after childhood, but in infancy, they are much more than closet necessities. Socks that look like they are shoes, socks with characters on them, frilly girl socks and fun, colorful socks look adorable on tiny feet. We all know keeping track of adult socks is an impossible chore, but baby socks are half the size and twice the hassle. Chances are the infant in your life is a short a few.
10. Baby Outfit Accessories

Hair bows, suspenders, sunglasses, summer sandals, and bow ties are adorable additions to the tiniest wardrobes. These inexpensive touches can draw even more attention to the tiny cutie in your life.
