Democrats are “marking up” the articles of impeachment for the full House to vote on before they head for their Christmas vacations, but Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz wonders if anyone watching at home knows what the heck they’re talking about.

Gaetz accused California’s Eric Swalwell listing crimes that aren’t in the two articles of impeachment and for which there’s no evidence.

Gaetz accused him of pulling a “Democrat drive-by”:

Gaetz teased that the hearing “just lacks a certain sincerity” because Democrats hope their constituents will buy the big talk and hype and not look at the actual articles impeachment.

The vote is next week. The Wall Street Journal reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hoped to keep vulnerable Democrats in the impeachment camp by offering a legislative quid pro quo with a defense and trade deal. Democrats have been holding their legislative calendar largely hostage to impeachment for the past two years, which means the reps who won office in 2018 in districts the president carried in 2016 don’t have much to show for it.

As we reported here, Democrats have their eyes on next year and at least one legislator says they are planning to impeach Trump again in 2020 if this latest “Democrat drive-by” fails.
