On Tuesday, President Trump hosted a social media summit at the White House for 200 conservative social media firebrands, such as James O’Keefe of Project Veritas, Diamond and Silk, and Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit.
Having criticized the unfair practices of big tech companies, Republican congressmen and women, such as Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), were also present at the event.
President Trump praised the conservative activists, many of whom have been victims of biased social media censorship.
“Each of you is fulfilling a vital role in our nation. You’re challenging the media gatekeepers and the corporate censors to bring facts straight to the American people,” President Trump stated.
“Some of you are extraordinary. I can’t say everybody. But, no, some of you are extraordinary. The crap you think of is unbelievable,” President Trump added.
Moreover, he emphasized that everybody at that event had “courage” and thanked everyone in the room “on behalf of a nation.”
He had guests come up to give specific examples of social media censorship of conservative voices.
Lawyer and National Committeewoman of the Republican National Committee for California Harmeet Dhillon was invited to the stage. She spoke of Twitter’s abrupt suspension of conservative writer David Horowitz’s Twitter account with no reason multiple times. In addition, she noted Google engineer James Damore, who was fired for criticizing Google’s diversity policy with respect to race and gender.
President Trump also invited the president of Live Action Lila Rose; Live Action is a pro-life non-profit. As PJ Media noted before, she documented the censorship of pro-life positions on social media, remarking that Live Action has been banned for four years from doing any advertisement on Twitter. Last month, the organization was “permanently suspended” from Pinterest.
President Trump underscored social media bias against himself, noting that it appeared strange that he is not increasing in Twitter followers as much as he did in the past.
He underlined that all of the great stories that could be written about his administration are ignored or downplayed, citing the lack of focus on his administration’s efforts to encourage more in-home kidney dialysis and the incredible, historic unemployment rates for blacks, Hispanics, and Asian Americans.
President Trump attacked big tech companies, noting, “We had a terrible bias. We have censorship like nobody has any understanding or nobody can believe… They’re [in reference to big tech companies] playing with a lot of minds and they’re playing unfairly.”
“They shouldn’t be liking the other side. They should really be liking our side because we are the ones that want freedom far more. You see what’s happening up on the debate stand. You see what they are doing to each other. You’re seeing the hatred that they have up there,” he added.
President Trump concluded his speech by announcing that he will ask representatives of the major social media platforms to come to the White House next month to speak about the censorship of conservative voices.
He also added that he is directing his administration “to explore all regulatory and legislative solutions to protect free speech and the free speech rights of all Americans.”
“Big tech must not censor the voices of the American people,” President Trump succinctly stated near the end of his speech.
