An unnamed U.S. official says Osama bin Laden is dead. The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal both think the claim is serious enough to report, but nothing is confirmed yet so we’ll see.
UPDATE: Oh yeah. We got him. The president just announced it.
Remember shortly after 9/11 when a certain kind of pacifist said that a thousand terrorists will rise to replace every one we kill? It was crap then, and it’s crap now. There is absolutely no up side to this for Al Qaeda at all.
UPDATE: Here is a picture of his dead body. It looks like he was shot in the head. The photo is graphic so I’m not posting it here.
The photo may be bogus, but it’s being shown on Pakistani TV, so it might convince some of his followers anyway. Official photos need to be released in high resolution.
UPDATE: Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas leader and “Prime Minister” of the Gaza Strip, predictably condemned the killing of Osama bin Laden.
