On Thursday morning, a large number of people from states as far west as California and as far south as Georgia gathered at the nation’s capital to plead with President Donald Trump and other prominent Republican political figures to ban the abortion pill. The pill is currently easy to obtain through the mail, leading to a significant increase in the murder of pre-born children even after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Outside the U.S. Capitol Building, police arrested 20 of these pro-life protesters, demonstrating what it truly looks like to put your money where your mouth is when you claim to stand for the God-given right to life the pre-born possess. It’s easy to talk the talk, but can you walk the walk? These protesters pose that question not only to you, me, and everyone else in the conservative movement, but also to GOP politicians who claim to be pro-life yet take very little action to preserve the lives of our most vulnerable citizens.
United States Capitol Police arrested the protesters outside the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) headquarters. Some of those taken into custody had previously faced arrest under the FACE Act by former President Joe Biden’s Justice Department and later received pardons from President Trump. One particular arrest should send shockwaves through every American who values free speech: elderly pro-life icon Joan Andrews Bell knelt in prayer, praying the rosary, when a group of law enforcement officers grabbed her, carried her off the street, and cuffed her while she still clutched her rosary.
“The chemical abortion pill has become the chemical coathanger, and the bathroom has become the new back alley,” said Emily Berning, president of Let Them Live, an organization that provides much-needed financial support to women so they can choose to keep their babies instead of aborting them.
“The abortion pill is twenty-two times more dangerous than the FDA told the American people,” Berning said in an interview with LifeSiteNews. “When officials bury the truth, women bleed in silence. That’s why we’re standing here outside HHS. HHS is not a bystander in this. HHS has the authority to regulate and the power to act, yet it has still allowed a dangerous drug to remain on the market … with fewer safeguards than basic over-the-counter medication.”
“Let’s be clear about what we’re asking for. Not another study, not another warning label, and no more talking points,” Berning stated. “I am calling on HHS to ban the abortion pill and, at the very least, regulate it so that women must see a doctor in person before they can obtain these dangerous pills.”
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America, told the outlet, “We’re here to bring a message to the administration—to President Trump, Vice President Vance, Secretary Kennedy, and Commissioner Makary—that the abortion drug must get out of the mail.”
“President Trump, we love you, we appreciate what you’ve done for the pro-life movement. It’s time to catch up to where your voters are,” Dannenfelser continued. “Save hundreds of thousands of children,” she begged, “and protect women from coercion.”
The widespread availability and ease of access to abortion through this deplorable pill signal that society is headed for collapse. Politicians on the right who claim to advocate for the pro-life cause and say they are fighting to preserve the American way of life will fail at both if they do not ban and criminalize this lethal medication. Yes, I said the quiet part out loud. Lawmakers must make the pill, and all other forms of abortion, illegal and punish those who participate in these acts through the court of law.
The Founding Fathers believed this country would survive only if its people remained morally sound and virtuous. Murdering the most vulnerable citizens in the country is neither morally sound nor virtuous. Liberty will die if we do not preserve life from the moment of conception until natural death. Any member of the Republican Party who claims to be pro-life yet opposes measures that would make this heinous act a crime should face a primary challenge and removal from office.
Souls are at stake, as is the future of the country. It’s time to stop treating this issue so lightly. The cost may prove heavy—politicians may lose their careers—but saving lives is worth it.
