It’s absolutely amazing to see one Democrat after another accuse their fellow Democrats of racism (and sexism). First it was Kamala Harris. Now she’s joined by Cory Booker who, in a recent interview, said that Democrats could very well end up with six candidates “with no diversity whatsoever.”
“We’re spiraling towards a debate stage that could have 6 people with no diversity whatsoever,” Booker said on CNN while crying his heart out. His reasoning is that only six candidates have, as of this moment, qualified for the December debate.

If you listen to Booker, you’re convinced that six are WASPs: white Anglo-Saxon Protestant (and of course heterosexual) men. But wait! That’s a bit strange, isn’t it? After all, Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren, Amy Klobuchar, and Pete Buttigieg are among those six candidates. Warren and Klobuchar are rather obviously women (I think that’s safe to say, they identify as such, don’t they?) while Buttigieg is — wait for it — a gay man.
OK, I get it. None of those people are African American, but that doesn’t mean there’s “no diversity whatsoever.” It just means that there is no diversity with regards to skin color.
What’s more, Asian American Andrew Yang and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (who’s of Samoan ancestry) are very close to qualifying for this month’s debate. They’ve both raised enough money from enough individual donors already. As New York Magazine‘s Intelligencer explains, Yang and Gabbard are “within a single national qualifying poll of making the stage.”
In other words, “the all-white-debate narrative may well be premature” as well.
Why, then, is Booker repeating the lie that there’s “no diversity whatsoever” among the remaining viable candidates? It couldn’t have anything to do with the fact that he isn’t among them (yet), could it?
