When I purchased Donald Trump Jr.’s new book Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Sure, I follow the first son on Twitter and, yes, I enjoy his appearances on talk shows, but still, a book is something completely different. The man has little to no experience in politics aside from being involved in his father’s presidential campaign, and although he’s clearly sure about where he stands on the issues, I didn’t know how deep those beliefs went or how much he truly believed in them.
Well, if you want to test a person’s beliefs, make him write a book. It’s hard if not impossible to fake it for 300 pages or so. Or, for that matter, for 10 hours in an audiobook.
I wasn’t disappointed. In fact, now that I’ve listened to it completely, it’s not only crystal clear to me that Don Jr. knows that of which he speaks/writes, but also that he’ll be a political force to be reckoned with for years if not decades to come.
Although Triggered deals with very serious subjects, Don Jr. frequently uses humor to a) make fun of liberals and liberalism as an ideology, and b) to defuse the situation somewhat. He does so in a masterful way. I’m not exaggerating. Several times while walking outside — even on a busy street — I burst out laughing. People around me must have thought me insane.
Who knows, perhaps I am. My laughing hadn’t anything to do with it, however. Don was simply that funny.
More important than the humor, though, is Don Jr.’s ability to carefully explain all that is wrong with modern American liberalism, which has gone from being a political ideology to a mental illness. How else to explain the lunacy of there supposedly being many genders? The aggression of Antifa? The terrible sadness of Trump Derangement Syndrome (which you can see at full display every day at CNN)? Or any of the other insane beliefs modern liberals not only hold dear but also wish to force upon everyone else?
Triggered offers a concise summary of the left’s lunacy the last few years, and the danger their sick ideology poses to society. As far as I’m concerned, if there’s one recently published political book you have to read (or listen to, like I did), it’s this one. This is nothing more than a declaration of war on modern liberalism. Don Jr. shows us everything that’s wrong with it and then offers us a path forward — a strategy and even tactics to make sure that the leaders of modern liberalism never win the presidency (or any other important office).
It goes without saying that the most important part of this strategy is, as far as he’s concerned, the reelection of his father. There’s much more to it than that, however. Don Jr. explains how normal people — you and I — can fight back, both inside and outside of politics. The most important points are that we should never give up; that the commonsense principles we believe in are worth fighting for; and that the “triggered” crowd’s attempts to silence us should have the exact opposite effect. Namely, that it should make us louder than ever before.
So let’s get started with it. Let’s be more brazen and louder than we have been… and let’s make clear to the Loony Left that we will not accept their insanity any longer.
