Former Democratic National Committee head Donna Brazile writes in a new book that she thought about replacing Hillary Clinton with Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. Why? Well, first of all, because Clinton was clearly not healthy (she had a “fainting spell”) and because her campaign was “anemic” and had taken on “the odor of failure.”
That’s right, Brazile argues she saw Clinton’s defeat coming from miles away. At the same time, of course, she and her fellow Democrats continue to push the notion that Russia helped Trump win.
In her book — which even the liberal, Hillary-worshiping media calls “explosive” — Brazile explains how and why Hillary truly lost the election. In short, it was one big mess in the Democratic Party. Or, as the Washington Post puts it:
In an explosive new memoir, Brazile details widespread dysfunction and dissension throughout the Democratic Party, including secret deliberations over using her powers as interim DNC chair to initiate the process of removing Clinton and running mate Sen. Tim Kaine (Va.) from the ticket after Clinton’s Sept. 11, 2016, collapse in New York City.
Brazile and her allies considered a dozen possible combinations. The one that eventually won was then-Vice President Joe Biden with Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey as his running mate. She was sure that these two would “win over enough working class” whites to defeat Donald Trump.
At the last moment, however, Brazile reconsidered. Why? Identity politics combined with a victim mentality. Brazile writes:
I thought of Hillary, and all the women in the country who were so proud of and excited about her. I could not do this to them.
Hilariously, Brazile describes Hillary’s campaign HQ as a sterile hospital ward where “someone had died,” arguing that the campaign had no passion whatsoever for their shared mission or even for their own candidate.
Furthermore, Brazile argues, another reason that Hillary lost is that she, Brazile, was treated extremely badly by the campaign. She even goes so far as to argue that they seemed to believe she was a slave:
“I’m not Patsey the slave,” Brazile recalls telling them, a reference to the character played by Lupita Nyong’o in the film, “12 Years a Slave.” “Y’all keep whipping me and whipping me and you never give me any money or any way to do my damn job. I am not going to be your whipping girl!”
Surprising exactly no one, Hillary’s former staffers say they don’t recognize themselves in Brazile’s description. More than 100 former Clinton aides signed an open letter Saturday night arguing they “do not recognize the campaign she portrays in the book.” The letter continues:
We were shocked to learn the news that Donna Brazile actively considered overturning the will of the Democratic voters by attempting to replace Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine as the Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential nominee. It is particularly troubling and puzzling that she would seemingly buy into false Russian-fueled propaganda, spread by both the Russians and our opponent, about our candidate’s health.
Of course, that attitude is exactly why Hillary lost the election. Even now, one year after the fact, they continue to blame “the Russians” for their defeat. Never before was there a campaign with such a loser attitude. Even John Kerry’s campaign wasn’t this weak in spirit.
