A photo gone viral shows a Wisconsin dad adding his personal touch when warning his daughter’s homecoming date about–well, you know what about.
As his 15-year-old daughter Ricarra posed with her date in the family’s front yard on Saturday, October 17, Benjamin Schock issued what would have been a standard dad line: “Whatever you do to my daughter, I will do to you.”
Then he surprised everyone–most of all the date–by approaching the young couple, donning a huge grin, and rapping his arms around the young man from behind. Ricarra’s mother, Sharee, who runs Schock Photography, captured the moment on camera. ABCnews.com reported:
“Instead of being embarrassed by her dad, Ricarra laughed it off and even asked her mom for the photo later that night. … ‘Ricarra asked for the photo because her date requested it,’ Schock said. ‘He posted it on Instagram with the caption, “Man of his word.”’ … Schock posted it on her personal Facebook account after that and got so many replies that she posted it on her photography studio’s Facebook page last week. The photo has now been shared more than three million times, according to Schock.”
The playful hands-on warning upped Mr. Schock’s deterrence quotient in his defense of his daughter’s honor. But that’s not all the photo has raised.
Schock, who was diagnosed in June 2014 with Neurofibromatosis Type 2, is battling brain tumors. Fourteen months ago he launched a GoFundMe.com campaign to raise $25,000 to help with his medical expenses.
A scroll through the campaign ledger shows that support ground to a halt after netting $820 in September of last year. But since the family posted the homecoming photo to GoFundMe two days ago, the campaign has earned an additional $1,888 and continues to grow–apparently from strangers.
