Chuck Norris, the martial arts legend and action movie icon, passed away on Friday, leaving behind a legacy that extended well beyond his films and television career. Admittedly, I’m not what you would call a Chuck Norris fan or anything, but I thought it would be a good time to reflect on his past comments about how he became a conservative.
Many know Norris for his film and martial arts career, but he was also a conservative Republican and a fan of President Donald Trump. I probably knew that and forgot about it, to be honest. But, anyway, at one point in the hours after his death was announced, I came across a clip of Norris from 2014 in which Norris explained exactly why he became a conservative.
In the interview, Norris was asked point-blank why he was a conservative. Norris gave a surprisingly thoughtful answer for a guy better known for roundhouse kicks than political philosophy.
"I used to be a Democrat," Norris told the interviewer. "But unfortunately, the Democrats went too far to the left, and the Republicans moved into their position that the Democrats were 40 years ago. And so what the Democrats believed 40 years ago, the Republicans believe today, and so I realized that I had to go to a Republican because the Democrats just got too far off the trail. They just got completely off the trail and lost all reality of what America stood for, and so I realized that Republicans at this point in time are more focused on what is best for America than what the Democrats are."

Norris continued, "John F. Kennedy today would be a Republican, because then, Democrats were more what the Republicans were today, and unfortunately, they lost their way, they lost their way, and so, now we're Republicans."
It's a sentiment that countless Americans have echoed since, and polls have shown it. But remember, this conversation happened in 2014. Since then, the Democratic Party has lurched even further left. It’s almost impossible to comprehend just how far. The years that followed brought open calls to defund the police, a push to rewrite American history as irredeemably racist, a full embrace of radical gender ideology being pushed into schools, and a border policy that seemed designed by people who genuinely resented the concept of national sovereignty. The party of JFK is long gone. It became the party of Barack Obama, and that party would be unrecognizable to him, as it was to Chuck Norris.
Sadly, it’s only going to get worse. And that’s frightening when you think about it. Honestly, it’s a scary thought because I don’t know what’s next from the left, and Norris’s comments from 12 years ago have really got me wondering just how much crazier the Democratic Party could become.
